I like the looks of my car going down the straightaway. I believe that was my first day solo. It looks like Glenn has an instructor in the pass seat. I know my car is slow but i do lift and let people by cause it can be dangerous to race somebody to the braking zone in the corner.
Is your car silver now? I like the silver and the black wheels but did you spray paint it.
That is HOK metallic silver primer. Its in the process of being painted. I have to get it smoother and apply another coat of primer before shooting a light translucent blue pearl over the top.
So whatabout you? Are you gonna start driving for reals or bench race for the rest of your life?
With the light color i noticed black brake dust all over the sides of the car. I like trashing the car. Black rubber streak marks all over it too from the race rubber bits flying up and hitting the paint job. This will never be a show n' shine car.

Turtlevette,
Are those the Cragar 397 series "Soft 8" wheels on your car? How do you like them? How do they compare for weight to stock steel wheels? I've been thinking about C4 wheels, but just don't like the idea of spacers....Gotta do something for a better wheel/tire combo, though, at some point.

(P.S. Good to see you back, Chris)
Black soft 17x9. They are cheap $59 but heavy 38.5 pounds.
I don't trust adapters or spacers. There have been a few here who have lost wheels.

Bench racing for 4 more months lol. I think my dad is going to make a arca road race car(he says he'd feel safer racing it). the class with the ls1. So that means im free to do what I want to the car. At my expense though.
Btw your paint is going to be better than mine now
Hey -- Thanks for posting the pics! What a blast! I didn't get to say goodbye and thanks for your help! You were gone when our last run group finished. By the way, that little black sedan pitted next to me threw a rod in the last run. Bummer.
I opened this thread to look for wheel/tire combinations for our old cars. There seems to be no good competition tires in 15". I'm real hesitant about fitment on these vettes of larger diameter rims. That, and I can get good racing rims that weigh @ 16 lbs. for @ 50 bucks from various mfgs. in 15''. I poked around on the autocross forum, and I think I'd get flamed for asking over there.
SO--C3 Vette--Good tire/wheel combo for track days?
I searched the tirerack--300$ + bling-bling aluminum. NOT!
I looked for Hoosiers- 15"-- none
Kumhos none
Considering a set of Goodyear Eagles and a steel wheel--I'd like to hear some opinions on how the racing slicks would work for road racing.
All I saw at the track were alloy wheels and expensive competition tires. I don't know if that's out of need or if these guys just like to spend money on wheels that will just end up trashed.
Yes- Aero, Basset, and Bart are three that make a good steel wheel- all 15'' that I know of. I haven't checked their websites yet.
I have American Racer 26.5 x 8.0 x 15 slicks and Goodyear Eagle slicks now available at the track @ 100 ea.
Just put a rear swaybar on last night 3/4" solid and Bilstein Sports--

The boss said get your *** home, so i had to hustle back.
Drag racing tires have soft sidewalls so there's no way thats going to work. I'd pursue the scrubs idea if you can get them cheap.

Do you run the slicks for auto-x or Rd r?
Havent raced yet. So far they have only been on the street.
I just poked around the wheel mfg. websites-- Cragar is the only one I found who makes a 17x8 or 9 for my appl. They have the soft 8 and series 342, both affordable. If I bolt on a set of those it will open up a whole lot of choices for expensive, grippy tires.
I don't see why the circle track tires wouldn't work great for my little car. The late model weighs @ 3400, my car weighs @ 3100 and soon will weigh less!! The problem may be that they'll grip like hell for maybe two run sessions, then start to go away. They are pretty soft compound.

Look for Hoosier Street TD-you'll find three appropriate 15" sizes, 245/45, 245/60, and 275/60-15's. They're bias but they work well on a C3 and are much cheaper than radials. Plus, they're DOT approved, which may be a requirement for who you run with and your class.
I think you'll find that 3/4" rear sway bar to be a bit much. Be careful.
Turtle - On Friday i wished that i had my camera to post all the inovative ideas installed on this 63 split nostalgia SCCA racing Vette. It's a money deal being refurbished..... at the local road racing shop.
I want to talk to the owner about how it does. Kumho ecsta 710s 245/45/17 fronts and 295/40/17 rears. 9 inch fronts and 10 inch rear wheels
Lot's of VB&P stuff. I think that it was this kit.

More Info
Price: $2,449.95
Front mono leaf and A-Arms with cross brace 1 1/8th poly sway Big remote engine oil filters and cooler setup. Unknown front springs probably 550 or even greater. Quality cage with superior door protection compared to mine. No swing outs
Unknown 4 or 5 speed. I would guess a richmond road racing model, but I'm not sure. Rearend HD cover drilled and tapped with pump and cooler.
Interior twin race seats/fire sytem and quality gauges and switches. Very lightened car
Resto--with your new dual-mount rear spring, be VERY careful about a rear swaybar. Do some serious practicing/evaluation first.
When I first put the dual-mount on, I left the rear VBP sway bar installed. The first time I took my favorite hard right-hander at speed the rear end came completely unglued. I quickly unhooked the bar and have no problem now. Admittedly, my car still needs suspension work to be in any kind of good handling condition, but that was a real eye-opener. Don't hesitate to call VBP and talk with them about recommendations.

I'm up for trying something different pretty soon. In your opinion if I can already slide the front end or the rear end predictably what is the real advantage to the rear dual setup? This weekend was unseasonably warm and dry. So I took the old Vette out with the girl friend just to burn up the gas and scrub the tires off. I was mainly showing her how easy it is to enter a turn to fast and do an off the throttle pitch it sideways into a 4 wheel drift. It slides for a moment and then scrubs off enough speed that the tires rehook and then you have the ability to then get back on the gas and get on out of the turn
