Justin - I think this thread has gotten way out of control. What's all this talk about pulling the entire engine? I know you're frustrated, but there is a solution. START OVER.
Things to consider:

1. Yes your gear ratio is gonna kill your bottom end torque with that much cam. But that's not causing your immediate problem.
2. Yes your stock converter is gonna kill your bottom end torque with that much cam. But that's not causing your immediate problem either.
3. Your pushrods that were supplied in the kit are TOO SHORT. That could cause your problem. Get a set of longer pushrods.
4. Your carburetor may be whacked. That will cause your problem.
5. Are you absolutely possitive your adjusted all the valves properly? I recall you had a lot of trouble with this during the top end install.
6. Triple check your timing and that all timing components are functioning properly.
7. Use a vacuum guage to check for late valve timing or poor carburetor adjustment.

Walk away from it for a couple of days before you do something drastic and expensive.
Do you have a knowledgable friend close by that could look it over for you?
The SystemaxII kit is a good kit. Don't go tearing everything all apart just because you're pissed at it.

Theirs not anyone around here that I know that knows what they are doing. I'm not certain that my valves are right but I'd like to think so.

How can I do this.

I'm not for tearing into the short block you may open up a new can
of worms for yourself. Call holley for some help, cell phone calls are
free.

It's not hard at all, but there's way more to it than I can type at 1:30 in the morning. That being said you can Google it. There are a lot of good articles. I found a couple already:

http://www.centuryperformance.com/vacuum.asp

http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/186.cfm

Doing this simple test should help you narrow down what exactly is going on.

Hang in there man. Remember, at the end of the day it's still just a small block chevy.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to figure that out.

Remember, at the end of the day it's still just a small block chevy.
That is what I'm worried about. I should have just got a old stang with a 289 HO.

JustinD...

I just read this thread. Stop, and step back for a day. If you want to PM me with your number I can give you a call tomorrow and get directions to your place to give you a hand. I know my way around an engine.

I can bring some of my equipment over and check it out for you. I live very near White Bear Lake.

I'd take a cherry old stang. I still would never give up my vette for one. I have a weakness for the lines of a C3.
