Default Help needed - Instrument panel / gauge light bulbs

Hi,

I am in process of putting the interior of my '69 vert back together, and want to replace all bulbs "concealed" by dash, as they are now easily accessible.

I have browsed through online parts catalogs of a few auto part stores, and it seems to me that all of those bulbs are the same kind; both indicator light bulbs (like turn signals and high beams) and gauge illumination bulbs. There are, however, a few that I have not been able to confirm.

SO, the question is: Are all those little bubs identical?

Cheers,

pete

i cant answer the question at this time as i am unable to get to my car to see, my dash is out right now too, but have you thought of going with led lights? i am swapping everything over to leds and from what i have seen so far of the kits out there it looks like a very easy swap. it will be plenty bright and draw very little power and you will not have to worry about replacing them again anytime soon. just something to think about.

According to the Service Manual the bulbs are No.1895 except for the
heater control No.1816
radio No.1893
cigar lighter (thats what it's called) No.1445
seat belt warning No.194
These all are still available at the auto parts stores.
Regards,
Alan

I have my dash out as well and the LED option sounds nice. Where have you seen a good set, and are they plug and play or have mods?

Thanks

i got a set from joe-florida on e-bay and they are outstanding. slight mods need to be done such as splicing them into the old wires but that is very simple. would not be hard at all for this mod. i can photo the kit i got and send it to you through e-mail. pm if interested.

The owner's manual has the list of bulbs required for your year. The GM Service Manual (Haynes) also has that list. All of the gauge illumination lamps are the same; but other items (turn signals, lighter, A/C control, etc.) have different bulbs. Check the manuals to be sure.

Great thanks please e-mail,
I have no problem splicing them in, but do they plug dirrectly into the back of the gauges with the same type fitting as stock? I ask cuz the stock fitting acts as a ground and it must be a solid contact.

Pete, I replaced all the dash bulbs in my 69 with Sylvania #1895 purchased at Advanced Auto. That 1895 number will also be on other brand package, like Advanced Auto label. Hope this helps.
