What year? Normally, there is a slit in one side of the hole. Heat it up, and it will slip over the handle (remember, round on top, flat on bottom). If worse comes to worse you can cut it on one side of the hole. I will work and function fine and you can never tell.
CC is right about the slit. The track that's part of the console holds the slide so well that you really can't see the slit once the slide is installed.

Alan
Even GM slit them to install them. A couple years back, someone in the NCRS decided that the 67's were slit on the oppisite side as the 68 up? Can't prove it by me, but I was told by a couple 67 owners at Kissimmee 2 years ago that they got a deduction for this. The repros come with the slit started on the back side of the slider (at lease the ones I carry) and they were checking all the vendors looking for sliders with the slit reversed.
{That's just totally @n@l...} @nyway... Put the slider onto the brake handle, then engage the console cover with the slider [from the back] and slide it into place.
Thanks guys I can see where there seems to be a slit (which we thought was a defect). I just thought that there might be another way but I was sure not going to take the parking brake assembly apart(I did think about it for a second).
Also gang thanks for the help on the seat install.
