Sorry to here about your illness, hope you feel better soon. I was wondering what happened. I thought maybe you sold it.
Talk to you later.
That sent a smile, NO, it was a good laugh!
But yea it did occur to me at one point in time looking at it in my driveway and thinking, WHY? Why and what did I do? I had a running car and now it sits here with no pedals!
I live in the high desert and the heat is starting to get bad. I'm very hypertensive and can't be under the sun too long.
Sorry to interrupt and crash into this topic but I'm in the middle of same thing with my -78 originally with TH-350. My question regarding the outer bracket of Z-bar is:
Is there perhaps a drawing available with measurements for drilling the holes on frame beam? Mine has no holes for the bracket.
Just finishing my swap (Tremec 5 spd replacing auto). Therer are 2 tapped holes on the block...the ball screws into the front one. The Z bar goes from this ball, parallel to the firewall, over to the frame. I welded on to the frame the mount that the ball in this end of the Z bar connects to. Since my brakes and steering had been removed, there was enough room to do this. Keisler, which makes the Tremec 5 spd trans, has these mounts. Good luck
My engine is out and I'd like to drill these holes for the bracket before I put the engine back in. I think I could get the measurements from the engine but if anyone has these available it would indeed help a lot.
WOW...... Thank you soooo much!!!! Now I have a clear view of where it is supposed to be. Will probably do it this afternoon soon as my son arrives from work.

I'm glad you asked. I found I need a new boot, it split down the center.
I'll get back to you and post a pic or two soon as we have it panned out. I don't think i'll even bother with the reverse lights for now. what do you suggest? How about the neutral safety switch?
I just came across a post by someone who replaced his rear fender and just as he said, help from forum members are always great but pictures help much much more. THANK YOU!!!!

I would hook up the SN switch for sure. You don't want to wreck a gear or bump into a car in front of you. At least with my luck that would happen and now I got body work to do.
Ouch...that hurts! Talk about luck, I started with a good running car, no problems at all, barely has 800 mi on that vortec, and got carried away that a tranny swap was pretty much straight forward deal. Boy was I in for a BIG surprise.
Too late now, we're in it real deep. Sometimes at night though, putting the auto back crosses my mind......lol.
Talk to you soon and thanks again for all your help!
Yes, for the boot to fit. Your speedo cable comes thru the floorpan behind the gauge cluster. The hole for the z-bar bracket is used to hold down a part of the wiring harness on top of the frame. I'll get some pics for you asap. I did this swap 8 months ago on an 81.
