[QUOTE=81cali;1569218191]would the back up light switch be the same as the one for auto? my connections are all on the auto shifter for both back-up lights and neutral safety. Does the auto tranny have this particular switch as well mounted to it?[/QUOTE
You will need the switch and bracket and rod for back up lights that mount to 4 speed trans. Your new back up switch will plug into the safety neutral switch (2 prong plug)
I think the auto shifter has a pin so when the shifter is in the reverse location it triggers the safety neutral switch to set the back up lights on. 4 speed cars have an extra switch mounted on trans. Others may know more.
thanks fo rthe input, i still have to tackle that when i get there. right now, i'm stuck with the pedals. does the dash really need to come down a bit? i've gotten as far as moving the booster out of the way and took the plate off that holds the steering column up.
I believe 80 & 81 already have the holes drilled in the frame for the Z-Bar bracket. Here is the bracket you will need -> http://www.zip-products.com/Zip/prod...CD040A78D92C7C
I used this on my 78 when I converted from auto to manual.

Hi John,
Would you happen to have a pic of where this bracket bolts on to? If not, can you please be specific as to where it goes? Thank you!
lol.....next would be the Z bar mounting bracket and the actual installation of the Z bar itself. I did ask you about the linkages at one point but decided to put that off until pedals and z bar are installed. So, after Z bar would be the tranny linkages.
I just remembered, would you happen to know if the speedo cable for the auto is the same for the manual? I might as well get one if it's different while I still have the cluster out. It's a PITA to snake my hand under the dash once the steering and everything is back on.
4 speed cable is 72" long Auto cable is 62" long. You may want to try but it seems like you will need a new cable. This is based on not having cruise control. If you have cruise you will need to put a kill switch like the brake switch on the clutch pedal. The factory did not offer cruise on a 4 speed car.

I picked mine up at Advanced Auto for about 15.00 bucks. Probably any other parts store will have it as well...
First see if your existing speedo cable works. For know just disconnect cruise harness at cruise control. You will need to add another brake switch onto the clutch pedal if you want to use the cruise control.
It's hard to tell by the angles of your pictures, but the first pic has either a vacuum line or speedo cable going through a hole. That is the one I would think is used for the clutch rod. My speedo cable come out much higher up the firewall.
I will try to get you pics of my car later. I have it at another location. I am going to start it today?
Where those two rivets are is there one above? I can't see. That may be it. You will need to drill out the rivets. If you have the boots or grommet for the clutch shaft. Check to see if boot covers hole. There is a metal ring that goes over the boot or grommet to secure the boot. Make sure you have the ring.

The 2 rivets are too far apart and there's no third one above it. In the first pic, that's actually the clutch rod that i tried to see if it will align with the pedal. However, I don't think the hole is big enough for the boot.

I found what your looking for, look at C1, you need to drill a hole. Gm states 1.25 +or - 1/64 diameter at dimple in cover brake pedal housing
