Tomorrow will be day 3 and the car is at a shop 100 miles away from us.
I thought 1 day was quite optomistic. You can never forsee all the little problems you will run into and what you forgot to get. The shifter bracket should bolt to the crossmember. I doubt the holes are there if the car was an automatic. The Hurst shifter bolts to the transmission which makes the install easier.
Terrible story about your daughter. My biggest fear in life is this, My daughter just got her first car and it scares me a lot.
It looks to me that you have a shifter mounting bracket from an eariler year (mines a 77 and it looks the same as yours). Its supposed to bolt to the crossmember on the back, and then bolt to a steel plate that comes off the top of the crossmember.........I'd post a picture if I only new how.....
I know this isn't what your looking for but here it a pic of my 81 crossmember with bolt holes for the shifter.
You see the braket mounted to the shifter and the 3 bolts in the X member. At least you can see were the factory lined it up. Your bracket doesn't look like it has mounting holes?
Very sorry to hear about your daughter, Same thing happened to my buddy! Stay strong.
If you need other pics let me know

The bracket that I have is similar BUT, bigger and will not match onto the X member.
Yes, it IS such a tragedy! Thank you to all! I am one of the first whose thread is in the "In loving memory section" of the forum. Mine is under "Please read...."
The case is still ongoing and this is just adds up to the frustration and disappointment.

You may want to get a manual x member or look at above pictire and weld your braket to the similar location. The right of the shifter lines up with the emergency brake guide wheel.

what is the bracket mounted to the shifter called. It might just be easier to buy that bracket. Also this bracket mounts to those 3 holes on the cross member right?

Yes, but does your auto x member have those 3 threaded holes?
You bracket is close but not correct. It looks to me like you have two choices. Weld it or buy the correct one with mounting holes. Are bolt holes in the x member threaded?
spedaleden could you please post more pix of the shifter bracket. We are on our way from the shop to J and D corvette and they are asking for more pictures.. thank you!
also if you could post pictures of the shifter linkages all connected if you have them.
