I am trying my best to set the car up as original, but I am having a problem with the TCS/CEC system. Does anyone know the proper TCS/CEC system for the 71?
I have the right solenoid on the carb, the TCS switch on the trans, the two relays on the firewall, and all the wiring is correct. I am having a problem trying to determine if I need the temp sender in the right hand head. I have a single black wire connector behind the right hand head, but not sure if this is for the jumper wire that goes to the sender.
Yes you need the temp sender in the head. It is different from the gauge sensor. There is a green jumper wire that connects into a dark blue wire on the firewall. This is from my 72 manual. Iwould think 71 is the same. The temp sensor is a 2 wire sensor also.
Although there are differences between your 71 and my 72 the basics should be the same.
You should have a single black wire with a weather proof boot running to the tcs switch on the transmission, a dual spade lug temp sensor on the right head with the lugs at an angle to each other.
The jumper wire for the temp sensor is green and should plug into a harness connector with a blue wire hanging down behind the right head. One terminal on the temp sensor is a low temp (below 82 degrees) position and the other is a high temp (232 degrees) position.
Hi Hunter,
The CEC system for 71 is different than the TCS system used in 70 and72.
The best explaination on how it works that I've seen is in the EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS section of the CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL, page 6T-2. There's a good diagram that shows how the various parts are wired and a description of how the system is supposed to work.
If you don't have the Manual sure should consider getting one.

Alan
The wiring to that 2-lug temp switch (Rik's Corvette Parts carries it, by the way) is pretty odd looking. The single green wire runs to one spade connector and then another piece of green wire is run from that same spade connector to the other one. The short 'jumper' wire is about 3-4" long. Apparently, the TCS circuit is not supposed to function if the engine temp is too cold OR too hot.
7t1vette,
I think the wire that goes to the temp switch was removed, but I found a green wire with a connector at the fire wall. I check with an ohm meter and it seems to go to the relay. Does the jumper wire that connects to the temp switch have a single wire connector at the fire wall? Any ideas of where to get the chassis service manual?

Is your temperature gauge working? I has a single green wire with one spade connector.
My gauge is working from the sensor on the drivers side. I think the CEC system works off a senor off the passenger side head. That is what I seem to be missing.
I'm in the same situation as HunterPayne. I have diagrams. but, there's still confusion. would be a real asset if someone could post pics to actual setup and wire colors. I'd also like to see the connection at the drivers side solenoid and where the wire comes from as well as color. My wiring is a mess. thanks
I am glad that I am not the only one with this problem. It is a real pain in the butt!!!! I have mine all straight except for the passenger side sensor. I can let you know what colors go where. My wiring is pretty good. Follow this link. It is the correct wire diagram that I tried to blow up, but you can still follow it. http://www.facebook.com/editphoto.ph...4694603&ref=mf
My '71 SB, auto, w/A/c has a single green wire going to a 'Packard' connector at the firewall/right side. The green wire going to the TCS temp switch (between cylinders #5 & #7) hooks up to that "Packard' connector.
I don't have a facebook account so I can't see your pictures but the wire for the TCS/CEC temperature sensor is unique in that it has two female spade lugs in a connector which has them at an angle to each other in a V shape.

Mine with same spec. has the same, one green wire connected to the passenger side switch
