Default Ford taurus fan

I added a ford Taurus fan for cooling. Its the 2 speed fan with built in shroud from the 87 to 93 3.8 liter motors. This fan pulls more cfm than any after market fan and go for $50 at the salvage yards. Do an internet search and learn more about them.

Hi L79R,
This is GOOD.
I was afraid YOU were a fan of the Ford Taurus!!
Regards,
Alan

PS: Not that there would be anything wrong with that.

Hi fugawi,
I noticed your capped off 5-port washer pump. A rare piece you could turn into a couple hundred dollars. Don't let it get away by accident!

Alan

L79,
Funny I was just looking though the archives at this set up and was thinking
I might like to do this. How is it preforming for you?

fugawi,
Did you buy your fan and shroud new or was you just able to clean it up that nice.

By the way you should not tease us like that you have to show us some more photo's
of that beautiful car.

Also what controls are you both using?

Thanks,
Riggs.

Good choice. I did the Taurus efan ~18 months ago and it works great. The only problems I've ever experienced was my inline fuse some how got too close to some heat source and melted the casing.

The other lesson learned was to use a single pole thermostat switch that provides the ground for the relay. My first sensor was a two pole that triggered the 12v relay switch. Not reliable.

I'm assuming you have a bigger than stock alternator to run this? I was thinking about buying a 100amp because I didn't know if the 63 stocker would hold up?

I did it last weekend too, $30 from the wrecking yard. $60 worth of relays. It brought my hi speed temps down. The outside temp hasn't been all that hot since I installed it, but at 85 f at 80 mph with a.c on and the fan on hi, it only got to 205. Oh, a word of caution, if you're going to drill through the bracket on the radiator top, make sure and use a drill stop

I'm wondering how it will hold up in the 95+ degree summers here in SC with the AC on. As it sits the aftermarket clutchless fan I have with the original shroud doesn't keep it cool. At any speed it's ~190 but at a stoplight it goes straight up and I have to turn off the AC and sweat my ***** off :[

Just running around town, my fan stays on low, even with ac on, temp never above 180.

I used two relays. One for the low speed that gets activated by the thermal tube on the fan control. The high speed I have to turn on manually from a two position toggle switch. The toggle send the control circuit to the fan control for low speed or to the high speed relay. The high speed is supposed to run at 40 amps but I put an amprobe on it and it only drew 18 amps after start up. I've been using a 78 amp alternator.

Is changing the alternator to a 100 amp necessary for an electric fan set up?

Thanks,
Riggs.

this is how I wired mine, although I havent installed the temp switches yet, I'm running it with a toggle for low or hi. Once I get the temp switches in there, it will be off till 180 then turn on low. At 200 it will turn on hi, or when the ac is on it will turn on hi.

Riggs, my 62 amp would not handle it. At idle with fan on hi and ac on, I was down to 11.7 volts. With the CS130 I am at a solid 14.0

My 78 amp still maintains 14 volts on high. I had it so I used it. If I had to buy a new one I would go for the 100 at least. I dont use much power except for lights, msd and fuel pump.

Thanks 75,
That is what I thought after I made the post, with the fan on, then add
in the lights at night especially with high beams and yes the AC.

Nice set up on the diagram. In my brief searches today I did not see any
temp switches other than 180, Where are you finding them?

Thank,
Riggs.
