Default I am Bubba

While trying to fit windows to my 75 convertible, after panel fitting and paint, I realized the windshield post on the passenger side was inclined back about 3/8 inch too far at the top. There was no way in hell the window would fit the opening. Yeah I know I screwed up big time, shoulda fit the window prior to paint
So.....not wanting to cut and weld at this point, I went Bubba
As you can see, I hooked ratchet straps from my truck to the windshield
frame. I did not use the truck to pull, It's only there as an immovable
object to hook to. Called my neighbor over and after a couple of bottles of Michelob Bubba Lube we proceeded to crank on the ratchets.
We got to a point where we had so much tension on the windshield frame it looked like the car rear tires were ready to slide. Another Bubba Lube. At this point, the top of the frame had only moved about
1/8 inch. It is deceptively strong ( no rust ). I couldn't ratchet any more by hand so used a three foot long bar and got three more clicks on the ratchet. With the third click, the post moved about three inches!! It sprung back after I released the tension and assumed the position exactly where I wanted it. I know I am extremely lucky, I did an inspection and can't find any damage of any kind anywhere.
Apparently it just went back to where it was before the collisions it's been in. I bought it as a wreck. I certainly don't reccommend this procedure to anyone, it's hard on the blood pressure and ulcer.
The window fits and works perfectly now and my neighbor calls me Mongo. I don't quite understand the Mongo thing but we did enjoy several more Bubba Lubes when This was all done
Ya'll Enjoy....I am!

Whatever works! I am just glad it didn't just quickly fold over destroying it, but I am glad it all worked out ok! Have one for me! Just reading it stressed me out!

Larry, congrats on NOT hosing it up!

See the movie "Blazing Saddles" for the Mongo reference.

Well, that's just how elusive the real Bubba is.... If a highly experienced person in a frame shop had done the very same thing, he'd be called an "ace". Of course he would have tied it off to some central I-beam holding up the building. But, since you tied it off to your pick-em-up truck, had a couple of beers to drum up courage, and used a pry bar to generate enough force to move the birdcage, you are Bubba!! Or maybe not... I don't know that Bubba's fixes every really work.

P.S. Since the cage moved that much, you just need to make certain that you didn't bust any welds.

I inspected everything I could get at. No problems so far, even no changes in body gaps. I'm still totally amazed.
Ya'll enjoy !

I agree that Bubba would have used the truck to pull... his foot would have slipped off the clutch... the A-pillar would have been torn out of the car... and smashed through the back window of the truck.
Nice Work!
Regards,
Alan

Interesting technique. I am glad it seems to have worked out for you but before you celebrate any more make sure the windshield glass fits properly. If it does then you can really let it loose. Good luck BUBBA.

Yeah, the glass fit did occur to me. I had a pro come out and remove the windshield, it took him about 10 minutes. I already had all the trim removed. I explained to him what I was planning to do. He looked at me kinda funny (he apparently recognized the Bubba) but assured me he would be able to refit the glass. The refit should occur
next week. I will post results.
Ya'll Enjoy!
