Too many variables... BB's can be reved quickly and high, just has to have a short stroke. It took to GM 40yrs to win LeMans with a smallbock after the Big Blocks won it in the early 70's.

And then what happens when the guy with the big block has to hit the brakes and make a sharp turn? I'm not trying to stir the pot......well....er..uh...maybe a little

get an lt-1. power of a big block, weight of a small block. best of both worlds.

make sure you drive one of each before you make your purchase. they are feel very different

In my 69 I was planning to install a BB down the line but the engine in it gave up....so it was buy all the things including side mount headers to go bb OR stay SB
I have a hot 383 being built...my builder says after I drive it I will forget about BB's
We will see....

They're both great engine. I've been wanting to drop a big block in my Camaro. I want to see what a big block can do.

You guys crack me up......All it takes is a simple "mine is bigger than yours" arguement to bring out the children in grown men

OP - Dude, seriously whats your budget?

18K-25K will get you a really nice small block car - its gonna take quite a few more nickels to even come close to a nice 427 car.

The 427 is C3 king of the hill.......and somewhere in the middle $ wise you will find the 454 cars

Alan 71, I knew you were gonna get in this. I hope you didn't take offense to my ranting, and if you did I apologize. You are a great person, helpful, willing, available, humble just to name a few. If we ever met at a red light I'd come off of it cause there's no way I'd be able to live with myself if I didn't!

I have had a 70 sbc 350 hp, I have just bought a 69 sb. I really wanted a 427, but found that for my budget of $20k, I could not find tidy un molested 427, but found a nice 69 SB for mid teens, leaving some cash to play a bit. I have a 70 camaro, I was running a 480hp SBC street engine, drove the car heaps lots of fun, I up graded to 600hp SBC ( race gas) car was too fussy for everything other than racing and sunday hoon!
I have always loved the L88, one of my mates has a replica, fun to drive on the street, but gas is expensive and it broke most of the driveline over time, now he has 600cu alloy block and custom built rear end, big $$ custom gearbox and the car never gets used.
I summary for a driver buy a SBC with some good heads cam ect, for a weekend "hoon" car buy a high comp BB, and some wk

the bottom line is a BB car is worth more than a SB car. the corvette fever is much more intense and the eyes glaze over when buyers look under a hood and see a BB. Buyers will pay out the wazoo for a BB. I had to have a BB because I knew come selling time, I would much easier find a buyer that would pay my price...
so many other negative characteristics are not even considered when buyers look at a BB car. needs interior? Rusted Frame? Don't matter.. its a BB.

I just like the way a big block looks under the hood and the way it feels when you step on the loud pedal...

I have 3 small block Corvettes and 1 Big Block. Love them all, but my conclusion:THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A BIG BLOCK to put a smile on your face

Don't rule out a nice 68 or 72. I really like the 68/69 427 motors

I realize that a 40 yr old car will require some maintenance no matter what, but am trying to limit it with a decent motor, and of course, nothing will be perfect. Thanks in advance. Paul

I can't believe there's a debate.. Big block all the way..

EXACTLY..... I have LOVED every small block I have owned but there is nothing, NOTHING like raising the hood and seeing that massive engine and hearing that sound a only a Big Block can make.

I'm closing in on five oh soon so my ego trip is pretty much over. Being almost a grown up I'll get by with a small block just fine.
