Many times the whole big engine thing is needed to make up for ....

Sadly with the net and "people" in this case investing in vettes rather than something else likes bonds or real estate....the whole theory that is based on resale value of a bone stock car...in the eyes of a purist a BB slapped into a base model SB car is "wrong" as far as collectable and investment potential goes, a BB engine in the wrong car helps add value to it about as much as a rusted out frame or trashed interior....the investment cars are the perfect NCRS stock cars that came fatory with a BB....I am a big fan of custom but I am not stupid about where resale value is.

I admit when I was about 15 and not as car savvy I thought a BB was the end all to be all...now as a much more savvy car crafter I know they have their pros and they have cons too, I have seen all kinds of engines do this or that...some common some exotic,
I have seen a beater rotary spank a BB Chevelle...I have seen import tuner kids in FWD's spank vettes and stangs....the world changes,

For me when I "settled" for the 383 SB it wasn't because I had to....I could have went BB this time but for the way I use the car the huge difference in price would not justify that the only pro a BB in my car would have had over a SB is to wow the people who are living 40 years ago and are not up to date on what engines can be in the 21st century.....
This is impressive....state of the art!

As I play with my car will I go BB down the road...time will tell,

I will never ever understand people who buy a "car" for investment they worry so much about what it will be worth down the road that they never enjoy the car, sure it's a bonus that vettes in general do have great resale value...but it's a car it was born to be driven...

My friend John, he passed away just over a year ago...RIP, he saved things...Cologne, shirts, socks, wines...you name it...his idea was he wouldn't waste his "good" "expensive" stuff daily and would save it for another day....the fellow up and dies one night at his favorite dive bar....point is ...don't save things....use them for what they came into the world to be....
Go take that car for a drive...

Depends are you looking a completely stock(restored or original) or some thing modded. If original or restored I would go big block better resale on big block cars( that are original or at least original bb cars)

If looking at something modded. it really doesnt matter parts break and wearout. If buying a modded car do alot of research on who built what, where parts were bought. nothing worse than getting some Pos some guy that knows nothing put together

there is always a better re sale figure on a bb car original or not, if the buyer is looking for a bb car....

I realize that a 40 yr old car will require some maintenance no matter what, but am trying to limit it with a decent motor, and of course, nothing will be perfect. Thanks in advance. Paul
Hi Paul.

Within the narrow scope of your question BB or SB doesn't matter.
It's all about the age of the engine and the work it's seen to date.

Everyone already offered an extra opinion on "value". I'll add agreement that the best of both worlds "today" is a modern "big" small block - like a 383 or 427 stroker SBC. The upside it that the car is more reliable like you wanted. The other upside it that it will cost you less because the original mill is missing.

I'm presuming you want to actually drive the car, and not trailer it to concours events where hte numbers must match.

Yeah, well I don't have to blow mine to get it to go...

Just kidding! I've seen your car, it's a nice ride to be sure, engines like the cars themselves are just another choice. That's why there so much we can do to them....

This debate comes up every few months and I usually join in just for the fun of it, it does get entertaining

To the OP. If you want a nice vette that's not numbers matching and you want to drive it and tinker with it, etc, and not pay too much I think you will find a small block easier to find and less costly and if you want more power in future then you have the base for as much power as you can handle

not all Big Blocks are heavy "anchors", some us weigh LESS than small blocks.

Could be MUCH worse, you could have a Ford under the hood.

Also if you can beat me you have alot more money in your engine then mine.especially if you beat me with the nitrous on too.It will take a stout bb to beat me .
