Default Is all grease created equal?

Getting ready to put the car on a lift and do a complete lube job. Mostly original fittings still in good shape. Looking to push enough grease into the fittings to force most of the old grease out. What’s the best grease for old and new parts? Selection is pretty limited at the parts store!

I use a Valvoline marine grade grease that doesn't wash out and it seem to be a little thicker than other brand

I use both Mobil 1 and Valvoline synthetic greases - both are superb lubricants. The Mobil 1 is a bit 'looser' and seems to be more influenced by heat. Valvoline seems to retain it's consistency no matter what and SEEMS to be more water resistant. I like the Valvoline for the ATV because of frequent the water exposure. Mobil 1 for the street vehicles (unless there is Valvoline already in the gun!). I have not had any issues mixing them, either.

I have seen Valvoline in the stores but no one seems to sell Mobil 1 here in my small town. I'll give the stores another look and see if they have added any new grease since the last time I looked.

Synthetic greases are capable of withstanding higher temperatures and they will not "dry out" as readily as organic products.

That being said, if you grease joints regularly, any good quality grease...organic or synthetic...will perform its function satisfactorily.

I very seldom have access to a lift. So I would like to get the best grease I can. That way I can extend the lube cycle as much and as efficiently as possible. So far I have checked Auto Zone and O'Reilly's, neither of them have any synthetic. I will try NAPA this afternoon.

A high content Moly D grease is almost always used in severe applications, available in regular and synthetic .

How often should the tie rod ends and ball joints be lubed?

It really depends on how much you drive it. Each oil change isn't a bad idea if it's not your primary car. I put about 3,000 miles a year on my old cars and use Mobil 1 synthetic grease once or twice a year.

Many good greases out there. Personally I've become quite attached to Lucas red-n-tacky, available at Napa. I use it for wheel bearings, balljoints, on bolts, just about everywhere.

If you got a walmart close, the Supertech extreme pressure red grease is good and cheap. My Superduty gets it 3 times a year and still has the OE TRE's with no slop(1999 F350 with 164k miles).

I also use the marine grade grease (blue stuff). I get it at NAPA or my trailer parts store (not sure of the brand though). I buy the marine grade for my boat and boat trailer bearings. I am too lazy to change the tube when I grease other stuff so everything gets marine grease by default.

I make a habit of greasing everything during each oil change. Most items get just a shot or two and I try not to over do it. My 4x4 pickup has 250,000 miles and it's still has the original tie rods and ball joints so I figure the marine grade must be good for road vehicles as well.
