do you really need them ,,what exactly do they do ,,when i got my car 2 months ago i went though the washer system and my car only has the 3 output on the washer motor anyway it should have had the 5 to include the headlight washer i could change it back for the 8.95 5 outlet to include the headlight washer ,,do they really work ,I am just thinking they would cool the bulb down and crack my t-3s what do you think

If your not getting the car judged I would stay with the 3 port.

They do squirt the low beam from top and bottom but I don't know if they are good at actually cleaning.

The system was designed so that the headlights would get 'sprayed' whenever the windshield washers were used. This assumes that the headlights are getting the same level of filth that the windshield is seeing. Did they work? Well, they got wet...but there wasn't anything wiping them off when wet (as in the case of the wipers).

I don't think they ever worked that well. And they certainly weren't "necessary"...otherwise they wouldn't have ditched that idea in late 1970. If you were having the car judged, it would be good to have the right equipment that came with the car--whether you actually use it or not. In the case of my '71, it has the 5-port washer, most of the hoses for that system [some are cut short because they were never hooked up], and the headlight bezels with the "D" holes in them. But, no nozzles were ever installed at the factory: a case of GM 'wasting' money on hardware so they wouldn't have to make any engineering changes to the build sheets.

4 or 5 years ago I ran into a guy who was repop'ing the 5 port washer pump. I had an original with me and we compared them. His are right on but the white plastic is "whiter" than the originals. http://www.melroset-tops.com/melrose_catalog.pdf p F19

Pics of the originals......

The hose setup you can get from Dr Rebuild,(best quality), and the wahers are on fleese-bay often(Don't think they're repop'd)

The problem piece is the anti siphon valves mounted where the upper and lower washer hoses meet and connect to the long feed from the pump.( BTW, to add to the confussion the quirters also have different mounting points on the HL bezels). Hard to find.In theory were supposed to keep the fluid from running out when the headlights went down.

Squirter nozzles are same ones as used on 1969 Rallysport Camaro so they can be bought reproduction. I broke my 5 port pump while restoring my 70 Vette and bought the 5 port reproduction pump. The repro pump is definatlety more whiter that the original but, original was discolored from age. Still havent plumbed the headlamp nozzles on my Vette maybe this winter so they can spray crap all over the Vette when I try to wash windshield one day

Sure, just turn 'em around. Then when somebody crosses the street, in front of your stopped car, fire 'em up.

Some of the aftermarket repair kits come with both the 3 port and 5 port outlets. Probably nothing you would want to look correct.

Hi e48,
What year is your car?
I believe 69 cars had a 3 port pump for the windshield washer and a separate 2 port valve for the headlight washers was mounted to the pump with a small bracket.
Then in 70, the five port pump was used, combining both functions.
Regards,
Alan

Washers are same as 1969 Camaro Rally Sport headlamp washers they are reproduced

Washers will destroy any work done on detailing in 1-2 seconds flat as front end is sprayed with water might want to think about not hooking them up. I paid $250 for correct headlamp bezels for my wife's 70 LT-1 and still havent finished running hoses to washers.

You can clean out blocked nozzles with a welding tip cleaner or small drill bit.

Alan once again perfect answer, just like your Vette

Washer pump is same as 1969 Camaro Rally Sport, had same secondary distribution system as the 69 Corvette. EXACT SAME PUMP!
