I knew that you'd lose some weight with the aluminum block, but wasn't sure what you'd gain with the new hood on it and the dry-sump tank in there.

... And yeah, the LS swap can be a costly pain in the rear, but it's so worth it. I'm having a blast with mine.

Not quite 100 lbs loss because of the eight quart dry sump tank, the return to a normal size starter, and I returned to a full size battery. The hood should have been a wash.
I still want to do the plexiglass rear window.

Pardon my nosiness, but what's the reasons behind those choices?

Default Supeleggera!

Okay B-J....I'm ALL IN on the superleggera deal....because in year one (1979) I pretty much did the remove-all thing.
So were talking about a 69 L-46 Manual.

NO PB
NO PS
NO RADIO.
NO HEATER
Convertible top removed.
Pass seat removed
pass belts gone.
Ralley wheels long gone.
Side Exhaust with Fiberglass covers.
Spare tire carrier gonzo.
VBP #360 mono-spring
Ign shielding gone (no radio)
Hella Lights (about half the weight, polycarbonate lenses.)

she's sittin at 2900. my Audi TTQ 4 cyl sits a 3050! 163" long car!

reference weights: shipping weight 1402 kg / 3091 lbs base curb weight: 1469 kg / 3238 lbs I guess the moral is don't buy a poky one to start with!
ppss...okay Porsche owners....The curb weight of my daily driven 1978 VW Scirocco WITH air-conditioning and 4 spk stereo is 1700 lbs @118hp.... guess those MP3 players and airbags weigh a LOT! lol

one hp per mph at 40 mpg.
(I had it down to 1625, but put some luxury back in.)

unkahal

I just shed another 13 lbs. I removed the bumpers for my paint job, that’ll be another thread. But before re installing the rear bumper, I finally removed these 2 1/2 mph rear bumper shock absorbers. I replaced them with some aluminum brackets and tubing. I also chickened out on the plexiglass rear window. I hadn’t heard many good things about them on the street.

Good to know. Lightening the rear is still on my to-do list. What did you see that was negative about going with the plexi rear screen? I've been seriously considering that myself, it has to be a good chunk of weight, and up high too.

The real vette the 68 up opel GT weighs just under 2000 lbs with lots of aftermarket parts to lighten it further. Lol How important is comfort and how much do the seats weigh. Aluminum or carbon fiber seats fixed in place. If you can aluminum weld and good at fabrication theres lots of things can be remade out of aluminum. All you need is a beep, beeb horn to pass inspection. Not a lot of weight reduction but a motorcycle horn weighs nothing.

Bee Jay,

I noticed you have a single muffler on your 79? Looks like a Monza turbo which used to have on my 78 which are very restrictive. I have these C4 Borlas now which are simply the best:

He has the magnaflow typically used for trucks that has 2 inlet/outlet that meet in the middle creating an xpipe.

Been watching this thread a long time and now glad to join in on the fun. Starting with a stock 32k mi. 77' stripped down to bare bones all undercoating removed all brackets removed. Always hated the bracket to hold a bracket to support the two ounce part way these cars are stock. Eager to see how it works out when back on its wheels.
