So I took a bunch of temp reading with a gun today. I don't know if these show you anything but they are. Thanks guys!
Temp guage 210*, top therm housing 190*, intake right under housing 183*, radiator top 120*, bottom131*, upper hose 147*, lower 129*, VC right 101*, VC left 100*.
Not sure if these readings mean anything but here are the header tubes. 1-187*, 3-290*, 5-500*, 7-270*, 2-270*, 4-500*, 6-360*, 8-370*. All the header readings taken right before the bend coming out of the block after running 10-15 min but not driving.
Anything here guys?

Next time you take your car out and it starts running hot, check the radiator and thermostat housing. If they give a cool number like 120* that would mean the thermostat isn't opening.

The headers are a tough call because the center cylinders are very close to each other and cool less than the outer. Also everything from spark plugs to valve adjustment can affect the temps. Although that 500* has me wondering but it could be a thin header pipe.....

Without air flowing through the radiator from driving down the road, I'm not sure that temp is all that bad really. I don't have a thermostat in my car and I have 2 electric fans, no shroud though. I can get just over 200 sitting at a light, especially if I have "gotten on it pretty good". Once I get moving again, it makes its way down near the 180-190ish

I'd say things sound rather encouraging at this point...how's it running otherwise?

Well I have been trying to keep it under wraps (until fonished) but I haven't been able to drive it because 1. I have been worried about the whole hot problem and 2. I am in the middle of prepping for paint! Hahaha I was going to surprise you guys with a bunch of pix when finished.
My mom's tenant works for a top body shop here in town and saw the car and decided he wanted to paint it for me as a project. I got bumpers off, door hadles off and most everything else prepping it for paint. He is doing body work and painting it for free so I thought I better take the opportunity while it is available. We are hoping to be ready to shoot it around the first of the month.

Doing a temp check at idle wont give you a true idea of how its running. Some cylinders fire while others coast through their power stroke.
Like it was said before 210* isn't bad for a fresh rebuild so its a minor issue that can be worked out but you'll have to wait until your show car is done

Hahaha! Not sure about a car show! Maybe a local parking lot show.. :-) I decided since this car isn't original, to really just make it what I want. Going dark blue with a faint ghost flame that you will have to really be close to see. The color is actually a 2013 Mazda color I saw and is beautiful.
Maybe I will give it a run in primer, break a buch of laws and then paint it so I can deny it was me. Hahaha

Gotta repaint the oil pan since the exhaust shop messed the paint up on it.

I wouldn't drop that oil pan. Paint it on the engine or you'll be looking at an oil pan leak.

there's a nasty rumor about me painting my old Cadillac after an adventurous night... total rumor, it was a pickup, the Cadillac episode happened later and it wasn't even my Cadillac

You're worried about a nick on an oil pan? nice show car, and I'm so disappointed in you, young man.... Corvettes are for racing.... Mazdas provide doors to be blown off

Hahaha! It was more of a joke! No way I would drop that pan now, unless it leaked. Haha

I finally finished the rear end rebuild/Van steel arms.... there are several cars (and stupid Miatas) that are going to be mighty surprised at who blew by them on turns 1-9
