If you decide to drop the oil pan, this is the way to go with the oil pan gasket:

Have you begun thinking about the fuel pump and oil pump? It's up to you if you want to go new, or re-use the originals. How is the oil pressure now?

Alright. Ill ask him if he plans on dropping it. We were gonna pull the engine to throw in a 2800 torque convertor but ive read it dosent do much.

My oil pressure is around 30-40 on idle and around 50-60 in gear. Is that normal?

Ill order new fuel lines but I think ill go with stock fuel pump. No need for upgrade. It works fine.

What fuel lines do you recommend? I have the piping sleeve kit from summit so if you find fuel lines to match it lol

well?

Also out of curiousity. Would I be able to supercharge my engine with this top end? At like 6psi.

The stock cast pistons aren't known for living long under boost. Any boosted application (turbo, super, nitrous) should have forged pistons. And that oil pressure you posted looks great, although it doesn't so much tell of an oil pump that is in good shape, as it does of bearing clearances that are still nice and tight. Your bottom end is probably in very good shape. Now, have you done a compression check? This will tell you the condition of your rings. If that comes out good (say, 150psi or higher) that means your rings are most likely in good shape, and the short block is a good candidate for heads and cam. Again, I have absolutely zero experience with supercharging but I have my doubts that the stock cast pistons would hold up to any real boost.

Do you have the numbers from the compression test handy? Just out of curiosity.

Maybe you should, and record the numbers. You're going to be increasing the compression with those smaller combustion chambers, but the bigger cam will bleed some of that off. It will be nice to have a "before and after" on the compression. I think a stock L48 in good shape should give about 150-160 lbs./sq. in., It would be nice to see around 180 after the mods are done.

Well I have a question quick. I tried started my car one time and when I turned the ignition it made a grinding/ clicking sound. It happens about once every twenty times. Very rare. Just wondering your guys thoughts on what it could be.

Starter or flywheel may have damaged teeth or the starter could have some other issue... if its just clicking it could be a battery going bad or wiring from battery to starter... poor ground connections are a popular issue on these cars.

I'm sure more people would go look at your other thread if you posted a link to it.

So you've got one of those Speedway heads already? How do they look, quality-wise? Are you going to measure the combustion chamber?

I have a question. Since my engine is at 117k miles and im redoing top end. Would I gain any benefit to get this block. Throw my new top end on it. Then transfer the bottom end over to it? Or would it be the exact same as just doing my top end.

Cant put old internals in a new block if youre going that route just rebuild your entire motor period. Or at least check some bearings on your bottom end/timing chain to make sure its all sound. Bearings and gaskets are cheap.

Alright. Ill just stick with top end. Also my bearings are fine and am getting a new timing chain. All gaskets are all ready ordered and in. Just have my heads left to purchase. Should have the second ordered by end of week on payday After that its just oil filter, oil, antifreeze, break in lube for cam. Then I should be set to go!

EBay has fully built 64cc aluminum pro comp heads starting at $600.00 a pair with shipping... some have options like cnc,'ed chambers and 3 angle vavle jobs... seems like a good value for the money.
