Hello!
I have a 69 427ci BB and want to replace the side yokes at the diff. I searched at Willcox and figured out, that there are side yokes in a "normal" version and ones are "haevy duty".
Can anybody tell me the difference and which one do I need to buy?
Gunter, Mikes right! In most cases big block would have caps instead of the u-bolts. But a quick look under the car or post up a rear end picture and I'd be happy to tell you.
Do not forget to buy the pinion shaft also. Chances are that it is damaged and can immediately begin damaging the ends of your new side yokes if you do not replace it. Also the special long bolt that holds the pinion shaft in may also need to be purchased due to I have seen many that are either cracked at the end or bent and getting ready to crack.
The pinion shaft is the shaft that goes through the center of your carrier and that your side yokes push against, spin on and stop on.
These two parts can be serviced and to do not have to remove the carrier.
For what it is worth...all differentials that I replace the side yokes in get a new pinion shaft and or bolt.
If you plan on keeping and driving your car you should get away from stock ore even HD yokes. They are not made from quality metal.
I bought mine from MidAmerica when they were only $550 a pair Now about $369 each
My stock HD yokes were completely gone before I had 50,000 miles on my car. I've had these in my rearend for about 20 years and every time I have the rear end apart for a new $800 toms posi unit or a gear ratio change the yokes still look brand new.
WOW! talk about inflation! Those Mid America Vette side yokes are the International Axel side yokes I used to buy for $175 a side with the caps thankfully I have 2 sets couldn't afford them now. When your dropping the "hammer" at the drag strip starting line with sticky slicks at over 3000RPM, they bring one less worry to my mind! Lifetime guarantee!
Gunther if your not drag racing, I have some good stock Big Block/LT-1 side yokes around $200 for a pair........or I'll trade for certain reddily avalible VW T3 Syncro parts.
Thanks for your support guys!
@gkull: when you will be here in Austria and how long will you be here? You are welcome everytime but in April my Corvette will not be on the road, it´s too soon. Anyway, let me know!

I have not finalized my plans. I always planned to retire before age 55. So I have decided to retire this March 2014. I'm just going to do contract work on race cars and do what every I please. So if I want to spend a few months in Europe I will. I have a caretaker/maid to take care of my house even if I was gone for a year.
I have friends and family in England and Spain and of course my wife in down the road from you in Austria.
I can order parts for you and send them as birthday presesents!

Hey Dub!
I know the pinion shaft, but don´t know the "special long bolts". Maybe you have a pic of it?
