79 vapor canister
I still have the original canister, looks ok not sure if I should replace.
Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks
The base cover of the canister has a drain molded into it.
In earlier years a short hose was connected to there drain. It still just drained on the ground.
Later years did away with the hose but the drain functioned in the same way.
If the canister became so saturated with gasoline it was a way for the gas to escape.
Regards,
Alan
Here's the bottom cap with the hose. (71)

there is a filter at the bottom that can be accessed and replaced...but generally....unless they are molested or damaged in an accident...they do their jobs for a very very long time. one way to tell if it is bad is in the vacuum lines you can see or get to fall out of it small particles of charcoal. I have had to replace several charcoal canisters on the 92-96 Corvettes where these particles make their way all the way up to the purge valve and clog it.
