Nice project. Subbed to follow your progress. Is it hard to get GM parts down under, or pretty straight forward?

very cool to see another person my age take on such a big project, makes me feel less crazy.

Looks like a pretty solid car to begin with, definitely more complete than my 71 when it arrived, I assume with the warm climate you never have to worry about rust on the frame or cage? Whats the interior like? And the wiring harness? Will be following closely.

Nice one. Great price too (from a fellow Aussie). What're your plans for it?

ditto, there's quite a few of us ozzies on here that have a unique ɹǝpunuʍop approach to things and problem solving these cars.

where are you located?

Cheers, my plan is to rebuild the front and rear end, rust proof the chassis and xmembers working my way from front to back replacing what needs replacing, then working on the running gear just getting it running nice. (Was running well before being parked up.... allegedly) and then working on the interior and finally the exterior.
I plan to do 99% of the work myself, I'm not after a show car finish just a nice weekend cruiser finish

Good to hear! I'm from the northern suburbs of Melbourne.

Okay update for today peeps, I've painted the diff (minus the half shafts) and went to work on removing the right side trailing arm and the bolt is seized!
It's 8:30pm here and decided for the neighbours sake I'll stop trying to punch it through.
I've soaked it in crc and will give it another go and if it's no good I might just have to cut the bolt with the recip saw.
Was hoping to have it off and painted tonight..... Oh well!

I had one trailing arm bolt that needed the saw.

Was a quick cut and it all came out

What's the current regulations there regarding LHD cars?

the state where i am, South Australia, it's a rolling 30yrs old to keep it LHD. current rules

and to put it on Historic Registration where we get cheaper rego and insurance, but usage limited to 90 days a year
  • The vehicle cannot be driven for fee, hire or reward.
  • The owner of the vehicle must be a financial member of a recognised motor vehicle club.
  • Before the start of each journey, details of the journey must be recorded in a log book.
Log books must be:
  • issued by recognised motor vehicle clubs
  • carried in the vehicle at all times during a journey.
up until a couple of years ago here, a LHD had to remain stock, ie; no mods, including wheels, suspension, cd/mp3 radio etc.
thankfully the rules have relaxed somewhat.

That looks amazing.
At the moment I'm just hoping to remove a lot of raod grime and scale and get a kbs coating on.
In the future I'll definitely want to aim for what you've done there.

Not much progress over the last 2 days as I worked yesterday and went to an engagement party afterwards. Wasn't feeling too good today so I just replaced the bushes in the passenger side trailing arm and gave it some kbs treatment.

I had a monaro over here in the UK, one of the 6.0L LS2's. Had vauxhall badges but still had a holden plate under the bonnet at the front. Loved that car! Sometimes wish i hadn't sold it.....but then again, i put the funds towards the corvette i have now and wouldn't swap it for the world

Enjoy it!!!
