I think that's from sopping up the gas that dripped in there from the fuel line. I do think I will pour a little oil over everything before I put the intake back on, though.
I would change the oil, probably some gas in there now.
Change filter also.
I would also pull all the lifters out and use a light to see down the bore.
I would be leary of just putting it all back and starting it up. Gambling has never been my strong suit.

This is like the never ending story
Lunati lifter on the left that I paid for, the one on the right is what I got. Holeeee cht.
Lars is right about the level of disappointment from folks like me who lack the skills to do serious work. Now I'm worried that it's not a Lunati cam, either. I have disassembled down to the water pump, maybe I can go one step farther and pull the timing cover. Lunati rep says the "Lunati" stamp and part # will be visible without actually removing it from the engine. I just have to remove the top sprocket. At this point, I ain't gonna tear it up any worse than it already is. Good grief.

I ordered the Lunati lifter from Summit to replace the lifter damaged by the broken pushrod. Obviously it's not the same lifter that the shop installed in the engine. It's a hydraulic roller. I paid for Lunati and got something else. I would have never known if the engine had run right to begin with so maybe it's a good thing.

I would call the shop OWNER and tell them what happened, that you openned up the engine and theres not the Lunati parts in there you paid for...Then ask if hes going to rebuild it again with the real parts or if he wants to pay for your lawyers new boat....with all the pics and evidence here, you can present that and maybe have another shop verify that the motor is still together so he cant say you swapped all the parts out. I would think your getting a free rebuild with the correct parts one way or another, or maybe part ownership in a shop if you have a good lawyer

I really don't understand it, the guy has done work for me before. Why would he try to screw me now? I have talked to him several times since I got the car back trying to figure out why it won't run right. I wonder if he realized he was busted when I told him I was replacing a lifter? I am certainly no engine expert but I know enough to realize when I'm being hosed. I have not talked to him yet about this latest development. I want to have a solid argument to make before I do.
If you specified a part, and it was not installed, and he says it was, you have a liar on your hands or a
" honest" mistake by his crew.
My concern is if he is a liar, what else is "BS."
Gather the documents for small claims, reclaim your money, and move on.
You could find another shop, have him tear it down, and document his findings.
Am I wrong? I think I see a Flat tappet and a roller.
You keep saying "lifter" but not really saying what you think they installed? Hydraulic Roller or Solid?
I'm still not understanding your lrecent ifter picture. Are you sure you did not order the Summit lifter wrong?
Yes, they may not be a Lunati and probably generic.

At this point, sadly, I do not believe it was an honest mistake. It's a small shop and the owner is who did the majority of the work.
I'm going to call him tomorrow and give him an opportunity to explain.

the one on the right looks like this one
but I guess it would have Lunati etched on it. So maybe not.

They're Both rollers ... the Lunati on Left has an encircled roller (like OE GM rollers are) and that is Much stronger than the failed open-wheel junk on Right ... machining for Left costs more to perform. Both are retrofit as they're paired w/ link bars.
