Sorry for stealing this thread but which gasket do you suggest for 71 with 350/270bhp engine? The heads look stock and I'm taking them off to replace leaking valve seals.

If the heads and block are flat.....the 1094 Fel Pro sprayed with Permatex Hi-Tac sealer is hard to beat for iron heads.
What is the part # for the new gaskets? I just installed Felpro FEL-7733PT2
I've used these before with no problem.
What did you clean the block and head surface with prior to install?
I was thinking he meant valve SEALS. but who knows. And seals can be changed with heads in place.
However, I thought I would chime in on this thread as soon I am going to be putting on the Fel-Pro .015 shim head gaskets with Aluminium heads. I have done a bit of reading on this. And yes almost everyone says to spray them with copper gasket seal. However, I've been finding a mix of thoughts on the need to go back and re torque the gaskets.
Looking for thoughts on that. is it necessary to re torque the heads and if so after what time interval?

The stock replacement gasket is fine, but I will not install them without the Copper Spray I mentioned above.....just an added layer of caution.
To clean blocks and head surfaces....the 3M Roloc bristle discs are the order of the day....nothing better and they do not damage surfaces. Green for cast iron, white for aluminum. Fun Trivia: The white 3M bristle discs were designed by 3M for Chrysler in 1999 for the 100% failure rate interference Neon 2.0l engines. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b40064937/

Thats the way I clean mine as well. Wipe with MEK when done.
I dont use spray on Fiber Felpro gaskets. Just put them on dry.

put mine on about 6-7 years ago, .015 shim with copper coat and aluminum heads, have not re- torqued them and no problems. 10.6:1 CR.
the gasket cannot compress so I don’t see why it would be necessary.

fwiw, an alternative to fp 1094 steel shim is fp 7733SH1 ... save a few$
heck, the copper spray costs about as much as this gasket
The 1094 has a coating on it......it used to be black, now it is clear. I still spray the 1094 for a layer of added protection.....that's just me. The 7733 is the same gasket without coating. You decide.
Where's the blue coating?? Those look like the basic rebuilder gaskets? Haven't seen that either...especially with the "good" blue coated gaskets that have been around forever. What part number??
When you say you checked block and head flatness....what did you use? Was a feeler gauge inserted under straightedge? Any clearance?
