This may be a kinda dumb question, but thought I'd throw it out there to all the Air Conditioning experts.
Today I painted my new compressor to match it up with other accessories on my engine. I painted it with VHT Caliper paint. VHT says to bake paint at about 200° F for about 20 minutes. I would like the paint to be hard and chemical resistant. But concerned about putting the compressor in the oven for fear of destroying seals. What if I put it in at slightly lower heat for 30 minutes? Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks Guys.
although i do NOT see an issue with the 200f.. the reality is that mass will need to heat soak for some time to reach that temp..
if it was me i would have an iR gun handy and a heat gun and adjust as needed to be 180-200f for a minute or two around it.
that engine compartment and that compressor running will bake that paint!

You won't hurt the seals no more than you would hurt the caliper lips seals during hard braking where temperatures exceed 200*. I would do as directed as the paint is on the surface and will be exposed to the oven heat from the onset.
