I'm not being mislead!! I'm just simply pointing out that it is Impossible to gain 90HP by a simple exhaust system upgrade!! As your post even supports my statement....
" an increase at the crank to 315 with the mods I pointed out... (exhaust system upgrade and curve the timing) 235 at the tires".... OK.....so a stock 1979 l82 produces 225HP that is only a 10HP gain. It is literally impossible to gain 90HP with simple bolt on mods on an 8.9-1 compression engine.

My 235 rear wheel horsepower is at the tire. GM’s 225 is at the crank “as installed” in the car….full exhaust and a **** tune/curve…..
You won’t pick up 90 horsepower but you will pickup about 45-50….the stock L-82 exhaust is a bad as it gets…..total cork.

The 315hp number is a dyno number…..and counting for 20% drivetrain loss is actually around 250 at the wheel…..
A bone stock L-82 will not crack 200hp at the tire.

I absolutely believe there exist C3s that pick up 60-90 HP with just exhaust and a tune, if it replaces a clogged cat. They may have been rated 185 or 205 hp r whatever when they left the factory, but GM doesn't honor that guarantee any more than it does a 40 year old warranty.

If someone can prove that a properly running L48 or a L82 can gain 90 horsepower from just a exhaust system upgrade, I'll run ball's *** naked through Times Square, New York City.

To be fair, I don't think anyone is saying a stock L48 or L82 will gain 90 HP from exhaust system upgrades. I think 40-50 is realistic, no joke, on an engine dyno.

The only strong reference to gaining that power I've seen so far is going from a system with a plugged cat to the best performing system (which would be dual 2.5 and well designed long tube headers). That's believable, but hopefully there are very few cars in this boat by now. They've either gotten new monolith converters, or the converters have been eliminated entirely.

In a regularly used vehicle, those original cats would have died more than 20 years ago.

I read once from a Cadillac engine specialist that putting dual exhaust on a 79' Coupe DeVille with the 425ci V8 would shave 1.5 seconds off the 1/4 mile.......after seeing the stock system, I believe it.........those were some rough times for engineering....
My CFI 82' Z/28 shaved 1.5 seconds off the 1/4 mile with headers and a 2101 Performer and Q-Jet......no other mods!
