David,

That's one sad looking mess. I can't see that being salvagable. You can't tell me that there is not some frame damage(minimal or not). Don't take this wrong... and I will probably get cremated for saying this... but, as far as vettes goes you will forever on own a wrecked vette that many potential owners may just bypass on just knowing about it. Especially if you show them the pictures. Life long damaged goods.

I can't bear to go back there, not even to scavenge my parts, i.e. sterio, etc.

For everyone looking for pics.... go back to the first post of this thread as Cali added them in the first one.

Just a discussion... nothing else.

:seeya Sorry to see your Vette in such pain but I think now would be a good time to install a 1 peice tilt front end from Eckler's it already has the headlights installed and would save you some money I think but thats what I would do... it's just such a waste not to try to save her. :blueangel:

I'm afraid there is nothing to salvage. See the one pic where you can see the bent frame, front end is shifted 2 feet to the left.

Hey bro, I can't begin to find the words to say I am so sorry this happened to you and your car. I hope there is some way you can get satifaction, monetary or otherwise, but it would be a hollow type of satisfaction. I guess your immediate need is to get 100% healthy. Maybe I will see you this Sunday for the run out to Harrah's. I'll keep a good thought for you. :grouphug:

WOW.. Sorry to see such a beauty wrecked.. Be thankfull you are ok. Cars can be replaced. Having over three years into mine I can relate

I have Farmers and also have stated value. I have Farmers on all vehicles except Bike. When I was invloved in a pileup on 80, the Accord I was driving was paid off to us. I was hit in front and rear, basically crushed, but my agent told me as soon as the cost of repair comes close to 75% of stated, they will total it, which would bring you to 12k or less.. My agent is also a friend, but I believe that is normal policy.

Those girls were typical of kids these days, and unfortunatly, only the driver will likely be cited, losing license until 21. Your insurance company will deal with theirs and more than likely the girls insurance company will pay off, but only on the condition that no other suits can be brought against them. Standard procedure. Something bsimiliar happened to me about 15 years ago with a drunk driver slamming into my car while it was parked.

Good Luck... Kep us posted

Sorry to hear about the accident. I'm glad that no one is seriously hurt.

I recently had an accident in my 71 in which the entire rear will have to be replaced. My car appraised for 16500 as well 2 years ago. Luckily there was no damage to the frame so Farmers agreed to fix everything. Although, there was some haggling. I have taken the opportunity to go ahead and have the rest of the car painted and restored.

In short, I know how you feel to have your baby hurt in such a way. I didn't eat for 2 days after my wreck. It was over a month ago and they are just starting work on mine. I hope that you choose to repair it but also know what its like to have your heart ripped out as well. Please drop me a note offline if you have any questions regarding my experience.

Good luck!

OMG! holy crap, your lucky. that is some substantial damage. i know this isn't something you really care to talk about but how much damage was done to the other car? i only ask because there is alot of car between your front bumper and your seat. i cannot imagine the honda and the stupid, idiot girls were nearly as lucky as you were. not that i'm saying your lucky here since you've lost your car but you are lucky that after a wreck that bad your not wearing any casts or in traction!
in a sick way this is more of the reason why i always laugh at people who are afraid of corvettes because, "they'll shatter if they crash". truely, that car sustained significant damage and managed to protect you about as well as anyone could imagine.
i've seen and heard of more corvettes wrecked than i care and the one thing that i've determined is for a front or rear impact, i don't think there is a safer car in it's class. door impacts are bad though, people often die when they get hit on the door. imagine how fortunate you are that you were where you were. had you been just 10 seconds later, they could have hit you on your door, or the passenger door, either way--not good.
those pictures just make me want to puke. i'm so sick for your loss. i would be very surprised if the insurance company didn't total it. although the drivetrain appears to be salvagable (hard to really tell from the pics), it certainly appears there will be some frame straightening involved in any repairs. it must make you sick just to see it, it would me.
damn, dude. keep us posted. i want to know what the insurance has to say but i really want to know what happens with the idiot *w*itch (i have to do it that way but you really know what i want to say) girl gets for all this.
i know it sounds sick but i really hope she has some life long scares she gets to look at for the rest of her life to remind her of what she did. don't want her to be permanently injured (well, maybe, but then we'd end up having to pay for her sorry butt) but something she gets to see for the rest of her life, might go farther than a suspended license and community service.

Nice reply ...

I agree that the fiberglass goes flying, and there is still lots of protection in front and behind you... Side impacts are not good for any car on the road...

Dude that totally sucks. I kinda know how you feel. Mine isn't as nice as yours, but its in the shop now becuase someone pulled out in front of me.

Could you get a new frame and transfer the parts and rebuild the front end. I hate seeing a nice Vette end up in the junk pile. :cry

So sorry to hear about your bad luck. Take care of yourself and make sure you get your back taken care properly. Cars can be bought and sold, our body is for life, complete replacements aren't available (yet . . . ).

Keep us posted on what happens to the other driver. :yesnod:

To turn a HUGE negative into a positive, now you get to start looking for an old Vette to restore.

I may be the eternal optimist here - but I haven't seen any pics that verify
any serious frame damage. Obviously, the impact was severe enough to
tweek the frame - but that can be straightened. Any thing that is forward of
the front sway bar is all bolt-on frame extension and bumper support.

In my opinion, this vette is salvagable. However - in truth - it will never be the same again.

Good luck - and PS - you'd be dead or wish you were - if you were on a bike.
