Do I have it wrong?
To add my two cents, there isn't any year Corvette that I don't like and that certainly applies to the C5's, especially the FRC and verts. I also have to disagree with Mr Mojo on one other point, the 63 SWC is the sweetest best looking of all the Corvettes.
the C5 styling sux and is the worst in corvette history. i will never own one, and i can say that with 100% conviction and a guarantee or your money back that i won't.
frank is right. its soon time the C5 will in fact be the redheaded bastard child in the corvette lineup.
jealous? not here. no way. i love c1, c2, c3, c4......c6, and am looking forward to c7.
81c3, it sounds like you're crying. its not becoming of a corvette enthusiast.
Actually, Frank doesnt need a "defense", as I wasnt attacking him. Seems like you need to put "IMO" at the end of many of your statements. It also seems to me like your rubbing your hands together wearing an evil sort of grin when you say "the C5 will be the redheaded bastardchild". Who the hell cares? Same as you not caring that the C4 is labeled that at present. IMO, it shouldnt have ever been labeled anything but a Vette.
And honestly, how the hell can you "love" the C1?
I like the C1 only because its the begining of the rest of the generations. j/kYou need to step back & check yourself before throwing out acusations. I'm not "crying" about anything. I love C4's. I had an 89 coupe & a 94 Vert 6 sp. I loved both of them. If I had enough money, I would have kept the 94 in addition to buying my Z06.
Lighten up buddy. You have your "opinion" & are entitled to it. Just make sure you post it as such. I understand your frustration being a past C4 owner myself. The "black sheep" thing never bothered me. I like what I like I dont give a crap about name calling or labeling.
Most people who throw around namecalling or stupid acusations are simply misinformed. Have you ever had the pleasure of rowing through the gears in a Z06?
If not, then I suggest you treat yourself to it sometime, if you can get past the "hidious" appearence of the FRC.Bottom line is this, were all enthusiasts, so why do you find it necessary to bash other guys pride & joy? I'm sure you dont appreciate it when its done to your beloved C4.

BTW, there were 297 cars on display at this small town show. 277 cars were registered in competitive classes. My car was one of those, #220.

Remember, the '84 was evolutionary in it's design and handling aspects. It was the fastest and best handling car of the day.
It also won Motor Trends car of the year. The reason it gets panned so much is due to the lack of mods for the car to increase hp. It's intake is restrictive which doesn't allow it to breath well. But, the engine is very reliable, just not easly modded.
It also got a bad rap from a magazine guy who didn't like the harsh ride (what a pansie). I for one, love the Z-51 handling on the track. On the street, it can get challenging on rough roads, but it's just improving my driving skills

The later 4th gens outperformed the early 5th gens up until about 2001
To buy an '84-'96, you have to be a real enthusiast.
I love my C4, but the reality is that the C5 is a better performance car than even the '96 Corvette. Neither the 345hp or the 350hp LS1 takes a back seat to the LT1 or LT4, in any performance category.
No arguement about being an enthusuist to buy a C4, but that doesn't mean that ONLY the C4 guy is an enthusiast; I know far too many C5 owners who are fanatical performance people and they put their money down when it comes to making their own Vette faster and better handling.
While each generation undeniably gets "better", the question remains: do they get more desireable?? For me, the answer is "no". I'm too old and too old school to appreciate the C6 for anything other than an awesomely fast sports car. The C5 Z06, to me, is the epogee of Corvettes.
But, I am quite sure that my C4 will have a prominent place in my will, when the time comes.

I have loved these cars since I saw my first chrome bumper shark in the late 1960's. I always wanted a Corvette and it took me about 35 years to get my first one (a beautiful (to me) 1978 rubber bumper). I love the styling of this car and bought it because it was affordable. Put a few bolt on mods and it runs better than stock. Unless I get too strapped for cash, will likely keep this one for time in memoriam. That being said I would love a chrome bumper car with a big motor but can't justify the $$$. Same goes for that wine w/ silver cove 1959 a guy in the neighborhood has or a red 65. I would likely give a lung or other body part for it but $$$ talks and .....
Bitten by the bug with my 78, I read everything I can on Corvettes, lurk on this forumn and watch ads, classifieds etc. I was never a huge fan of the C-4 styling but this was partly because I had never been in one/driven one and was bit naive and uninformed. I did research, drove several model years and found out this is one fine machine and the looks are actually incredible (different from the shark but awesome in it's own right). I find an affordable 1995 in my area and now I own two Corvettes. This one has all the creature comforts the 1978 does not have and is the fastest car I have ever owned. Best of all the wife loves this car and this is probably one we will keep as well.
Like the C-4, the C-5 originally was not my favorite styling. It too is growing on me and is the next refinement of the Corvette. I drove a 1999 and it was fast and very comfortable. Haven't been in or driven a C-6 but it is one beautiful car. I never say never.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
take it easy, learn to enjoy the car thats universally loved by everyone who sees them and drives them. when i drive mine, its like hanging out with a popular celebrity, just as i am sure your cars does toohonestly, C5 styling not only hasn't grown on me, its gone in the opposite direction and become worse ever since it came out. i'm very glad the C6 has corrected some of the anti-corvette styling that C5 offered.
it's all just a matter of opinion. i just happen to know what i like and what i don't like. and hey, after all that takes practice
And honestly, how the hell can you "love" the C1?

i thought i did preface my comments with saying its my opinion. no matter, of course you're right, its all just opinion either way. and thats the beauty of a public forum -- you can express your views now the Z06 i haven't driven. take the C5 exterior shell off, change the seats and i would be a happy man
it is what it is though.........Personally, I'm not a mojo fan but I liked his personal take on the C4/C5.
Its about evolution.
He wasn't bashing the C5 he was stating a personal opinion.
Deep down inside everybody knows the C5 is an excellent car some just know it first hand.
Never met a Corvette that I didn't like.
I love all Vettes too (except maybe the plastic bumper 305ci sleds). I just notice that when I go on the Ferarri forum in the 308/328 section that no one ever puts down certain years or the performance of certain models. I always have looked at the C4 (I like the term, sounds explosive
) as world beaters and just as good looking as Ferarris. I hate to say it but when one of our members pictured his comp yellow C4 next to a yellow C6, The C4 in the pic kinda made the newer car look plain. I feel that way about 308 Ferarris and there newer stuff as well.MDred85

Au contraire Mojo, The '64 coupe was decidedly the best looking C2. The '67 was actually a stripped version of it's forebearers! However, I think history will prove the early C4 body style is the most classic after the C2. If they had just changed the rear end as they did but with round lights and left the front end alone, they would have had it perfect!
