Took a quick run up to my mechanic in Menlo Park. I have another referee appointment Wednesday & had them double check there were no stored codes and the monitors cleared.
I have a scanner, but it's new so I wanted to have someone I trust check it out. Plus I just wanted to drive it.
Had my second referee inspection this morning & it went as expected.
All engine related issues passed, but he still wants an OEM (i.e. GM) TCU.
We discussed this and he said if the TCI literature and/or web site indicated their TCU was a replacement for the OEM he might accept it. He even said he'd do some research on his own & phone/email me if he liked what he found.
I hate to spend more money but, assuming I can find someone local to retrofit a GM TCU, this puts me within about $3K of being truly done.
Oh, and with the front end raised an inch I got over their speed bump safely too.

This is good news, headed in the right direction..

Congratulations! Looks like you can now see the light at the end of your 26 month long tunnel. On the Arizona forum (ACE) I have mentioned your build many times. I have also suggested that at least in AZ you be deemed a "Saint" for what you have been through. If you ever plan on coming down our way, let us know in advance and I'll let you know what we have going on then.

Thanks. Guess I need to log in to ACE...it's been a while.
I dropped the Vette and TCU off late Monday night at a shop recommended by the folks who raised my front end to give them a chance to look it over and be sure they could/wanted to do the job. I got a call back today saying yes and an estimate well within my budget...budget...that's a joke...anyway this is getting very close.
The new TCU is installed & I took delivery this morning.
They installed a toggle switch so I can choose the "street" or "performance" calibrations. We're having some needed rain here so I'm running the street calibration now.
The only issue is it stalled twice while rolling to a stop when the engine was cold. It was fine after a little time on the freeway. I'll keep an eye on that and have the shop check it out if it recurs.
I'll drive it a little more then schedule another, hopefully final, referee appointment.
A long shot, but double check that the PCM has both a switched and constant +12v feed, otherwise it will have to relearn the idle at each start. If it's truly temp dependent then the tune may need tweaked, if that's even possible with the erod.
Mine is cold natured and I have to wait a minute when I first start it or it will die. I figured I will wait till I get longtubes and orheads to make any changes at this point.
