I did mine after years of pondering. First one in a vet that I as attempting to do. I read many posts and spoke to people and the information was all over the map. I did want to remove the foam and some people did have had luck not breaking it. But chances are and felt it would probably break and there are no replacements. So I decided to do a less perfect job than I wanted to for a trade off of not breaking it.
Since you can't take off the roof, I think it's still doable. Follow the same rules although it is going to be much more of a pain. Another set of hands would probably be very helpful.
What I found was the glue on the edges due to age was not very strong anymore so I was able to pull the fabric off carefully. After gluing it on, the edges tucked in remarkably well which was my concern. It came out really well and with it being in there, upside down with limited light, you can't tell I tucked the headliner fabric in. I did use some dabs of glue around the edge as I tucked it in.
You might actually need to make a structure to put pressure on the headliner (braced against seat) till the glue dries and then tuck the edges in as a last step in a 2 step process.
Here is my last thread on it. Cleaning the foam well is key as well as taking your time and measuring carefully. Used basic headliner glue and bought headliner from Jo-Ann's fabrics. Read other thread to see what other did.
As I recall all C4 Corvettes were either targa tops or convertibles. Take the targa off, lay it upside down on a table with cloth under the targa. Working carefully you can remove the glued cloth which is under the edges. I reglued mine with a spray adhesive, starting with the cloth folded back so I could spray 1/2 of the targa top. Then I did the other half. I then carefully sprayed glue to go under the edges, folded the edges under and put the top back on the car.
The targa does come off. If you didnt get the targa removal tool with your car, go to a tool store and buy a T40 torx bit (and associated drive wrench) at least 3" long to reach the front bolts. There is a hole in the A pillar fascia to insert the torx bit into.
An owners manual will help with the procedure. Its easy.
