It's a little bright for my taste, but very professional looking. Nice job!

It looks very red. Maybe you should switch to decaff ? It does look like a good paint job.

I could only wish it was as professional looking as the pic makes it seem. I didn't do a very good job at all. Even some finger prints on it. I'm just trying to gauge whether or not I want to keep it this way. Once I make the "final" decision I'll redo it properly.

There in lies the problem. I didn't get it all off. I tried wet sanding it, dremel (don't recommend this at all. ), elbow grease, etc. If I redo it I'll break down and go to a paint supply store and get the proper supplies. If it grows old, I'll break down and just order new pieces.

The pic actually makes it a little orange if you ask me. (my monitor maybe) The red is a fairly close match to the GS Hash marks that I have on the front.

The best and quickest way is to use paint remover, the aircraft kind.

DO NOT let it sit too long, it will start to eat the plastic. It wrinkles in about 1 to 3 minutes. Clean the part off and reapply to the areas that are still sticking.

Worked awesome on mine.

Don't worry about the fingerprints in the paint. If your car ever gets stolen, the cops will use the prints to locate the owner. (heh, heh)
Honestly, it looks good. :hurray:

I have a foolproof trick for painting your key, high visibility parts which never fails.

Here are the key points:
1. Clean, clean, clean! Spend two to three times as much time cleaning and preparing the part as you plan doing the actual painting!!!
2. ONLY buy high quality materials (paint, tape, cleaning materials, etc....).
3. This is the big tip! Plan at least five trips OUT OF THE HOUSE and away from the part while you are painting it! Spay a fine thin coat - then leave! People hover over the parts (as I've done in the past) wanting to cover it as fast as possible. Multiple thin coats will ALWAYS give you the best result. Let it dry to tack (10 - 15 minutes), then hit it again. If you can't bear to be away from the part while you are painting it, set a timer! I've tried a beer between each coat, but by time I get to the seventh coat I'm painting my shoes.....
4. Lastly, never do the finger test! I think we all know what the result will be (wet paint + finger = DOH!). But if you are dead set on finger printing something, paint a small piece of scrap material at the same time. You can touch this all day long to verify that wet paint will accept a finger print.... :D

Looks good! I did the exact same thing, only with a gloss metallic grey similar to the 1990-1991 dash color.

Or..... you could try another approach LOL and spend $180. for a new one

When I looked at the GM Reproduction part at Ecklers a couple weeks ago, they just have a satiin black finish on them rather than the Duso (spelling) finish. I just said screw it... buy a new one and get it over with. (pssst the brand new original ones are really neat... even have the new leather smell from the booty, perhaps one day I'll have the opportunity to buy the whole dang car brand new  )

You're saying that a NEW one from GM comes with the shifter boot too? Heck I thought it was just the plastic ONLY! At least it coming with the leather shifter boot attached makes up for "some" of the expense.
