The '86 is havin some problems lately starting up after sitting for a while (a while being overnight / most of the day); it will take a good 5-10 seconds of cranking before the car will start up and run, but after that it runs fines and will start back up with no problem, even after sitting for a few hours. The Service Engine Soon light comes on and stays on after it has a start-up problem, but any time it starts up without a problem the light does not come on. It spat out a code 54 when I put it in diagnostic mode, but my shop manual for the car doesn't list that code.
It's been suggested to me by a friend that the Cold Start Valve may be having a problem, which is always a possibility. (... and if this is likely the case, how much would replacing it probably cost?)
fuel pump circuit-most likley a bad fuel pump relay-this would account for the addtional cranking too. Do you hear the pump prime when you first turn the key to the on position? if not-most likely the relay OR
the wires entering the relay-alot of us guys have inspected those wires-just to see the insulation has shrunk back exposing bare wires!
