Different strokes for different folks. Do people go down the street and argue argyle Vs. stripe sweaters? Jeans Vs. Khakis? Arguing a cars performance merits based on country of origin is pretty weak. Some perfer the lighter, high revving Japanese cars. Others prefer the torque customarily associated with American V8s. Some still prefer the build quality and longevity of a European car.
I work for a race team that is sponsored by Subaru from the factory. I prefer the look and feel of the Corvette for cruising along on a summer evening. I also enjoy wrenching on my Corvette as a hobby. That does not mean I automatically assume the Corvette is the end all be all of automotive existence. Subaru's have no inherent flaws and their engines and (especially the nearly indestructible STi 6 speed) drive trains are top notch. Styling is a matter of personal taste.
Both cars are very capable in stock form. Both respond well to modding and ANY car responds to a bunch of cash thrown at it. In 2001 I rode in a full WRC Spec Prodrive STi that goes from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds ON DIRT. Subaru's can be made VERY capable and have a fantastic racing heritage in the WRC and more recently in the USA. ANY car can be made fast. What is important is the car that stirs your soul. That car may be something different to everyone.
Live and let live. What floats your boat may not be what floats someone else's boat.
Putting down another person because of the car they drive shows a lack of class that no "Corvette" or any other car can make up for.
AMEN BRUDDA stop the bashing.....its worthless to this TECH forum.
i have never seen a suped up police car that had turbos and a pop can exhaust they got OUR engines in there. no thanks "ricers". kinda a little off subject but i figured id throw it in. someone send me some pics of one u can find. till then The gov. knows what the best engine is to put in the cars. 350. lT1 Ls1 Ls2
This statement confuses me, does this mean you worked at autozone or NAPA? And I don't see how that would make you an expert, did you keep track of who paid with their own money and who had "daddy's CC"? Without proper logs I don't think you can make a statement as fact like that. Running a cash register isnt going to make you an expert, just about $9/h.
Honestly though, I know people who have a WRX, s2000 or prelude, and they all buy their own parts and are all around nice people. Then I know a few people in the mustang crowd who were given the car, know nothing about its internals and in desperate need of an attitude adjustment.
The truth of the matter is you can find the bad apples in any crowd if you look for them, you apparently see a kid in an import and assume daddy bought it for them and that they must be A-holes.
I worked at a car stereo place that also sold various add-ons for cars. I was manager in training. It's a small store too. I worked every day from open to close. Most days it was me and the store owner there, nobody else. When the father pulls out a cc to pay for something that the kid picked out, you can bet that he is paying for it.
I agree that there are bad apples in every crowd. In Macon Georgia they tend to drive rice. BTW, rice to me isn't necessarily a Japanese car. It's any car made up like fast and furious cars, some of which were very sweeet.
I just told what I see here in Macon and other dude starts bashing me. Different parts of the country favor different cars. Different parts of town favor different cars. Not once in this thread have I bashed any make of car.
When My LT-4 was Bone stock i out ran a stock 04 STi - 235 AWHP
and lost only by a hair to a modded ~300AWHP STi.
out of the hole they'll take you "stock on stock"
but i now have Headers, Mcleod Twin, 410's and 315 BFG DR's. ALMOST NO street cars can touch me from a stop...
Can a WRX be tweaked for much more power than the stock? (aside from adding Nitrous)
I know crap about WRX's but the most insane street WRX STi i saw in person was running a BIG F'IN Turbo, hi boost, built motor and direct methanol injection... a New 07 Z couldn't touch this car- from stop or top end, i saw the dyno sheet of about 520 AWHP, and i know they are even crazier one's out there!
i was Just trying to keep up with this flame throwing Sti and me running flat out... i got left like i was driving in reverse!
That dude is the self centered bitter uncle that every family has. All he does ir try to ruin any family gathering. Maybe if he got laid once in a while he would be more mellow.
In a few minutes you will still be instigating bad feelings on this board. YOU are the type of Vette driver people say have attitude problems. You think you are better than everyone. I am ashamed to call you a fellow human. I feel dirty just talking to you.
I think the majority of vette owners have attitudes, and most of them seem to be on this board. But I think CentralCoaster is a good guy, perhaps you two just need a time out.
Different people from different parts of the world have different cars for different reasons and different a different financial status for everyone.
Saying that only 'punk *** kids with daddy's money buy imports' is like saying 'most vette owners are fat rich white guys who can't turn wrenches. '. oh wait.. That second part might be true.
When I was big and active in the fbody crowed everyone made fun of vette owners because the majority of posts start out with "my mechanic said". I come here you'all make fun of the fbody guys for having "inferior machines", make fun of imports, make fun of this make fun of that. You go on an import forum, and our vettes are 'lead sleds'.
I think a majority of people need to stop worrying about what some other guy drives, and just live.
Hey guys I own a 2005 WRX and I just wanted to share a little info with you about the cars. I am not coming on here to talk trash or anything so don't worry. I have a good number of friends with C5s, LS1camaros and firebirds, 6.0 GTOs so I know a good deal about american cars.
STOCK
So here is the run down on WRXs, from 02-05 the wrx was basically unchanged as far as performance goes, the car was rated at 227hp and 217lbs of torque, car and driver ran an 02 WRX in 2001 down the 1/4-mile at 14.1@96mph. That was the fastest time I have seen for a WRX in a magazine. Most people will run mid 14s at 94mph in a bone stock 02-05 WRX. Now I will move onto the 06-07 WRXs which have a larger motor from a 2.0 to a 2.5. They are rated slightly higher in hp but a good deal higher in torque. the fastest time i have seen for an 06-07 WRX bone stock was 13.6@97mph. The torque helps them get off the line better, but up top they are not much different than the 02-05 WRXs. Now on to the STI, the STI has remained pretty much unchanged from 04-07 as far as performance. Most people will run 13.4or so at 101mph in them bone stock but 12.9s@103mph have been seen in bone stock STI's.
MODDED
I have a 05 stage II wrx which consists of a catless exhaust and a accessport which reflashes the ECU, the total of those mods can be bought for $1000 new or $500 used. My best time so far was a 13.6@101mph. I have seen people go as fast as 13.3@103mph with my exact same setup. At the track I raced a C5 that i beat pretty easily, but it appeared that he let up down the track, I also ran a C5 Z06 that ran a 13.0@112mph, this race i was ahead of the Z06 up until right before the 1/8 mile when he flew by me. I know the C5 and the Z06 are both faster cars than mine but the driver mod is very important. My friend with the C5 thinks with a good launch in my wrx i could hold him off till 100mph. From a stop light to a stop light the wrx is a quick car, 0-60 it moves due to its 1.8 or faster 60-foot times.
The 06-07s in stage II form are very low 13s at 103mph or so, while a stage II STI is a mid to low 12 second car at 107mph or so. Stage II is the same price for all 3 cars around $1000 new. You can throw an STI turbo on any year wrx and break into the 12s for an additional $700 over the stage II price which would still total under 2k. I hope that information helped to understand the WRX and its potential performance a little more. The corvette is a sports car and its superior in most everything it does, but don't dismiss the wrx as a push over, a stage II wrx which most of them are since its so cheap, can even give a C5 a run for its money down the 1/4 mile, but from any rolling speed the C5 would **** all over a stage II wrx and even a Stage II STI. The wrx and the sti are amazing from a dead stop to 60-mph they are good from a dead stop through 1/4-mile, but from a roll they are nothing to brag about.

It's amazing how one little WRX can hurt so many Corvette egos.
This thread wouldn't exist if Corvette owners didn't realize that a sub 25k Japanese 4dr tin can can challenge and beat a Vette. Funny stuff. Keep it comin' boys!

Are you trying to stir the pot again? I will agree the WRX is a tin can, when i shut my door it sounds like i dropped a pile of pots and pans.

Not stirring the pot, just amused.
I owned a 1996 C4 about 10 years ago. I got bored of it and sold it after a year.
My WRX is still as tight as the day I brought her home. I've owned her for over three years, and modded her up to stage 4 VF34. That little tin can is still a ton of fun for me. Plus I love the look on Vette owner's faces when they stare at my rear bumper.
I might need some more mods if I'm gonna take on the mighty C6 though.
Corvettes, even C4s will gain value eventually because there will be enough snobs with money collecting them that believe they are the greatest thing on 4 wheels. No WRX or other recently-born sportscar of the like will ever benefit from that.
The Corvette's heritage is founded on elitist attitudes. Whether or not it had performance, people have always put it on a pedestal.
I agree with that almost 100 percent, but the MKIV supras 1993-1998 hold their value better than the C4 corvette, most of them are still well over 20k even after being 10 years old, but only time will tell.
