when I took off my resonator and replaced it with the X pipe, it made the sound much better, not that much more quiet but more mellow, I need to make a sound clip. I cut the factory resonator open and it is just 2 straight thru pipes with some insulation, and only very few perforations in the pipes

So are most of you doing chambered or just straight eliminators? This is my next upgrade to mine.

I removed the 2 cats and replaced with straight pipes on my LT1. It gave the exhaust a healthier sound. Now, I am considering removing the resonator or the rear mufflers. My first thought is to cut off the rear mufflers and have straight pipes installed in their place using the rectangular extensions on the mufflers. Or I could replace the resonator with an X pipe. I would like to ride in cars with both done to them but haven't found anyone locally that has done this yet. Coaster makes a good point, why spend hundreds of dollars when a local shop could fab the same thing much cheaper.

it will be very loud with the cats and the mufflers removed. I would do an X pipe first, it wont be any louder but will sound better. here is the thread I did for an inexpensive X pipe
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1643448

here is a pic of the muffler eliminator pipe with the LT1 tips cut off my original mufflers and welded on. fabbed up at my local muffler guy for $40.00

Your muffler shop did a great job installing your eliminators with the LT1 tips! I believe I could make an X pipe out of 2 3/4 y pipe to replace the resonator. I will have to give this some thought.

thats what I had planed to do until I found the other X pipe that I went with. I was going to cut 2 Y's and weld them together. your resonator necks down to 2 1/2 on the inside anyway so you wont loose anything by going with a 2 1/2 X pipe. the X pipe was about 50 bucks I could not build it much cheaper and they did a better job than I could have. there will be some stress on the weld if you weld two Y pipes together. good luck

your sound clip was the reason I did mine mine is not quite as raspy as yours though. but with my 3.75 gears I am allways in the good noise zone and the gurgle / pop on decell with theese low gears makes in sound like a Indy car I often leave it out OD in town

So the factor resonator is just straight pipes w/ holes?

What gains does the X pipe offer...sound or performance?

No one has a sound clip of the the muffler delete yet?

Thanks.

Sounds awesome!

So some mention low end power loss...anyone seen tests substantiating this for LT1??

Thanks.

i have a 94 LT1 and i can notice a little powerloss but not enough to worry me and realy care. but the sound completly makes up for it. im still debating what to do about the resonator. I wanna take it out and have the X-pipe welded in. just waiting to see and make sure its the righ thing to do

In my 95 vette I had an x-pipe installed and it sounded better but not where I wanted it. I then put 2 V FORCE mufflers on it and it growls real well now. The V FORCE are exactly like the Flo Thru and is 1/2 price. 2 V FORCE mufflers installed plus a computer check $140.00.

I did the x-pipe (95 LT1) about 3 weeks ago. I definitely noticed a difference in better acceleration. Easier revving. Nothing to sound at that point. I had the muffs eliminated over the weekend with straight pipe and WOW. Is it awsome. Everything else is stock with the cats. if you didn't have cats it might be too loud, but the cats eat up a lot of the sound. The honest reaction from everyone who has heard it so far, their jaw just drops. They love it. My only question is, because the muffler went down to 2.5" pipe, that's what they put on. I wanted the 2.75". Does anyone think that 1/4" smaller makes any difference in sound or performance?

I highly recommend it.
