That’s how my tire sits in on my car, i was able to do that with stock frame rails and no tubs. I run a 12 inch wheel on my car with 30inch tall tire. your gonna love the way it looks when its done, the car looks sick when the tire is tucked in like that ...
If you want it lower run smaller skinnies.I had to go from a 24 to a 26 to get it up off the ground, the front air dam was scraping the track when I would brake.
I do use the original shocks in the front, nothing trick .
I did see at the last race ,my buddy was videoing the car and I hit the brakes or atleast the brake lights come on when I shift,I guess all the broken parts still make me cover the brake even thought I didn't realize it.
It is the tree one time and the guard rail next .
I don't mean one time it is just how many times I have almost crashed.
I do feel good about the car when I am on the return road to pick up the time slip.

You wheel offset must be pretty large?????
There is absolutely no way that wheel in the pic would go under the car without at minimum a mini-tub. The tubs give me the option in the future of doing whatever I want though.
And yeah, I'm already planning on coilovers on the front. Already starting to shop around. Let me know if you find some you like.
RedC4 - this car will probably never have skinnies. My car is not going to be an all-out drag car like most solid axle guys. I don't want it to look like a drag car, ever. More of a Pro Street look I guess you could say. I like the element of surprise I guess, so that from 20 feet away the car looks fairly stock (except the fairly astute will know something is up with that wheel offset) but then when they walk up on it and see the tubs, cage, etc. in the back they are like WOW!!
the wheel i run is a 12 inch with 4.5 backspacing, the way i made it work was cutting the speaker box and bunch of the brackets under the wheel cover, and removing the wheel covers.

OK yeah I could see how that would work.
My wheels have a MINUS 6 mm offset so zero way they could work with your method.
Sorry if I have asked already because I asked a lot of the solid axle guys for pics, do you have any pics of your car?
Man, what are those plates for? It looks like you had a roll cage or S/T Frame or something like that in there before...
Seriously though, that is badass! I LOVE the wheels, they wouldn't work on a stock C4 though (sans straight axle) would they?
That car is going to be awesome when you are done. The stiffening the S/T Frame made in my car was amazing I can't imagine with all this work what it will be like!

I assume you are talking about the plates up by the door sills? If so you have sharp eyes!
Yeah apparently the car did have some type of roll cage in it before. I have been told that at one time the car ran 10's w/ a 396 on spray so I'm sure that is why it was there.
Those specific wheels would not work on a stock C4. I just sold the set I had just like em' with a more standard offset.
When we bolted the new ones on just to be able to move the car around they stuck out about 4 inches. You could probably do a little mini-tub like a lot of the C5/6 guys are doing these days but no way otherwise.
And yes, it should be SICK looking when we are done.
I was wondering that. Are you going to try and reuse some of the existing parts, sway bar, rear brakes, gas tank, abs, etc?
And you probably already answered it, but how will the tranny be supported?
Absolutely nothing in the rear is being retained. I'm going to run a fuel cell w/ an external fuel pump. Brakes will be Wilwood, for the kind of power I eventually want to run I don't want stock brakes on the car anyway, and I had already removed my ABS. The entire braking system is being removed and all new lines ran and I'll probably run manual brakes at first and see how I like them.
All of that stuff is for sale by the way, rear end, fuel stuff, ABS, etc.
I actually can't wait to see how handling is affected. I suspect very little but we'll see. There are plenty of Fbody cars terrorizing road courses with their solid axles.
All of the front suspension will be left as is right now though I'm probably going to have to go to a coilover eventually.
Hadn't answered the tranny crossmember question yet actually, and don't know the answer yet. We'll see what my builder comes up with and there will be plenty of pics to come . . . the roll cage should start going in week after next!
2 others are Rlane5 and John Mackey. I liked the way Rlane5 did his, and he did it himself. Best I remember, he did it for about 3500 and that included new brakes. Some money could be saved going with standard brakes.
That is one cool looking car you have. Look forward to watching the build up and track results.
Randy's setup is impressive, cheap and works well.
I think Mackey's car was the second LT1 car that Leo did. Insanity's car was the first LT1 powered solid rear car I knew of, even though the LT1 is gone now.
Red l98 how much down angle did you put on the tail of the trans?
What holds the top of the square iron at the top?
Is that the 400 turbo short shaft or long one?
