Bypassing VATS leaves your Corvette up for an easy steal. 99% of thefts are done by bashing the column and jumping the ignition. You don't have to buy a bypass kit, you only need a 1/4 watt resistor from Radio Shack the same value as the pellet in your ign key and it must be within 4%. Pull the kick panel above the drivers feet and locate the two wires from above the steering column that go to a 2 pin socket. Unplug and connect the resistor across the socket in the wiring harness (goes to the VATS module).
Most likely you need a new ign lock which has new contacts in it that make connection to the pellet. You can check this by unplugging the wires from above the steering column, inserting your key in the ign and measuring the resistance across the two wires. It should be the same as the pellet resistance. Also, you could have a defective clutch safety switch (gear selector sw if auto). Jump the clutch safety sw and try a crank.
Mine isn't nice enough for anyone to steal, I may ghetto bypass the vats with a resistor and a hidden kill switch when I rebuild the tilt. Muahahahah. Plus my battery drains from some mystery draw every 2 or so months if I don't drive it, so they better bring jumper cables.
I have changed everything in the distributor, and i'm getting 12 plus volts to the distributor but no fire to the plugs. It turn over but will not start. Could it be the elcectronic spark control module. Is there a way to test it to see if that is the problem. I deleted all of the emissions to the engine smog pump, and egr. thanks for trying to help. Craig.

You may not have a VATS problem if the car cranks. Leave the ESCM alone for now. How have you check to see that you don't have spark at the plugs? It may take more a full 360 revolution of the engine to see spark using a timing light gun/pickup...crank the engine for 15 seconds straight and watch for spark. To see if your ICM is working watch the RPMs while cranking it should register something.

I agree. If it's the VATS causing the problem it will not crank. I had an issue with the ignition switch being lose and not touching the "pill" on the key all the time and some times it would start and sometimes, nothing.

AutoZone will test your ignition module for free. Remove it and take it over to them for testing.
