Th700 problem
trans guy did the work and we putted in also TCI constant preshure valve body...at first trans worked ok..with hursh engagment when i switched to drive or other gears..then after 60 mils of driving it died..but was not like before that burned only 3-4 gear..now there is no gears at all!!today i will take my car in the garage and tried to find what is wrong..
in the manual ATSG sais that is something wrong with my converter if i don't get any gears...
have any ideas?
thanx!

....*the fluid was full...i dismounted the trans from the vette now and i will open it in next weeks..i have to make some tools first
...*fluid smels a little bit, but is not brown..is normal red..like new condition...
*shifter linkage worked properly since i drove with the car 60 mils and everything worked perfect...only problem i noticed was harsh engagemant..it was very severe...but then it worked great...
*everything was new..filter oil....there was no leakage...
*converter bolts were on

i also first assumed that the pump is gone...i will see..i will keep you informed...
i will check also forward apply piston...there is also no reverse;/...
there is no gear at all...when i put in any position there is no effect..
Pete it happend between i drove..there was no noise or bump before this...it was in Drive position...i drove normaly 40 mils/h after some cars infront of me...and then when i tried to accelerate...it was like in neutral...
it was not like last time when my 3-4 burnt out...but 1-2 stil worked properly...and the oil was also brown...i hope i dind't burn the clutches..
i have Raybestos blue plate clutches in...
Thanx for now
..BR,Seba

the trans is in my garage now...so i will disasamble it in a while,,,
Fluid full?
Fluid burnt?
Shifter linkage working properly?
Filter cracked, broken, or leaking anywhere including the o-ring?
Converter bolts verified to be installed, and tight?
Forget about the ATSG for the moment. It is very useful on a stock trans. Once major mods are done to the hydraulic's, all bets are off. If you are lucky, you broke the pump, or a the forward apply piston (assuming reverse still works).

when it happend to me...in that moment i would fry the trans guy...but than i calm my self down
...my girl said to me that i was very calm...but inside me was a vulcano...believe me..hehe...she would probably exploud..
...so..now i will do it on my own
....but still my engine is quite stock...few small modifications...
so i hope it's not something serious...hehe..
....so when it happend did you heard something..some noise, bump,...?
i didn't hear nothing when it happend...strange;/

did both front pump halves get trashed?
the stock pump rotors sometimes fail without notice.
they are made of powdered metal. strong but not fracture resistant. stock pump rotor can be iffy in high performance or race applications.
i used a billet steel 10 vane pump rotor in my trans from patc transmissions during my rebuild and upgrades. not cheap to buy.
$90.00 for their billet steel pump rotor.
but money well spent i figured at the time, like buying an insurance plan.
i am thinking now i made the right choice. your stock powdered metal pump rotor broke.
i believe its high line pressure necessary in these transmissions to keep them alive under high torque loads and high rpms thats kills many stock pump rotors in 700r4 and 4l60e transmissions.
talk to pete k. yet.
i would buy that 10 vane billet pump rotor, use it, and recheck your trans piece by piece.
better safe than sorry. my motto.

I Ordered it direct.
Google search "PATC Transmissions".
Click on their website, scroll through all items.
You will come across this billet steel pump rotor.
You need a 1987 auxiliary valvebody equipped and later 700R4 front pump to fit your 1991 700R4.
1986 model year wont work.
Try W.I.T. (Whatever It Takes). They are in Kentucky, USA.
They should have a nice used and correct front pump you need for your 1991 Vette.
Best time to get a hold of Pete K. is on Sundays.
I'm not 100% comfortable filling his shoes with Auto trans problems.
I am good with them now.
But I learned from Pete K. last year also and a few others too.
Pete K is Very Sharp and Smart with any C4 auto trans problem.

...and that we can do it right this time..'cause my trans is a realy pain in the *** now...just for the record..i use constant preshure valvebody from TCI..i bought it brand new last year..but the pump the trans guy give on was from year 1986...I saw this now when i dismounted the trans apart..and on video they said that 86' pumps are not good for later aplication due to different angle oil ports...
