A roll bar for sure, but not a full roll cage... no back halfing here (it's a street car/toy).
I almost have the entire motor back together and will find out tonight if I have any water leaks resulting from the addition of the rear intake water outlets. If I don't have any leaks I'm going to try to schedule an appointment to get the suspension aligned on Friday or so of this week....you know what that means......although I have a feeling that my tie rod ends are going to be too short since I moved the steering rack forward two inches. Believe it or not Doug Rippie said that moving the steering rack forward is a great way to reduce bump steer....we'll see....Does anyone know if the Doug Rippie bump steer pieces that fit on the tie rods actually make them longer...?
hmmm, I didn't know that's a option. You might want to post your Q in the C4 Tech/perf section. There's more Autox'ers there that might have done this.
I was just assuming that the blower would be at its highest output at its highest RPM.. Supposedly the F2 has a linear boost curve once it starts (but I do agree with you)...Anyway you look at it I'm going to have more boost than I had originally planned. Today I ordered a 3-bar MAP. I'll keep the bigger blower pulley when I feel like getting a little crazy... I also got my transblanket from EM today for my Zf6. I like my feet just where they are... connected to my ankles...
Is that a stock ZF6? I hope not I went with a Th400 but I should have just got a truck 4l80e and rebuilt it and installed it instead of the th400, no overdrive, 3000rpm goin 70mph isnt too great for fuel economy.
Well, tonight as I had just made my way out the garage my wife comes to the door and shouts "THE KITCHEN IS FLOODED!!!!!!!!!!!" I rush in and could immediately hear rushing water... There was about an inch of water on the hard wood flooring (new house only three years old) and what a mess! I yanked the frig. from the wall and it became obvious that the water line running to the icemaker had broken. It was kind of funny because it had completely severed and was whipping around smacking me in the head multiple times....I got the valve turned off and ran out to the garage to get my squeegy..... I pushed water out of the back door for about 15 minutes...while my wife was mopping the floor....I went down into the basement and sure enough it was leaking as well in several places....
Well, I did make my way back out to the garage after a while and finished putting my motor together... I was VERY worried because I changed many things this time in order to keep it cool...ironically I did not have even one leak... on the otherhand.... I have many hours of drywall refinishing to take care of... I may have to let my wallet handle this one....I'm beat...
Oh ya, the leak in the kitchen was caused by an inline water filter that had just simply failed... the plastic welded top just came off... I can't imagine what would have happened if that would have happened in the middle of the night...the water only ran for 20 minutes max. and was distaterous (the water made it way into our dining room and our family room..I have carpet and pad pulled up everywhere). Don't you know that all of our insurance policies probably have an exclusion for home owner added stuff that causes water damage ...I'll bet I'm right...now.... back to our regularly scheduled program..
Well, last night I had EVERYTHING put back together with the exception of the blower ducts (just in case I had a backfire) ... had my wife get in the car and I rotated the distributor until the motor fired (I hadn't had it started in three months or so)... Had the laptop hooked up... everything looked great... For some reason the new 3-bar Map sensor I installed seemed to make the motor run smoother and did not load up at all...Anyway... it was 10:00pm so I figured I'd give the neighbors a break...and call it a night..I then decided that I had the timing close enough to put the ducts on... I started with the lower duct.....For some reason this time I could not get my rubber hose connector (or whatever it's made of) to push down totally over the inlet nipple... so I gently used a screw driver to pry the inlet away from the radiator and all of a sudden my radiator was peeing green fluid......
I tried to Tig it with a spot weld...but the metal is so thin it just evaporates...Now I'll have to box it up and send it back to BeCool and bend over for a repair... This is going to be the most expensive radiator in history.. I also had a guy here in Indy who fancy's himself as a master fabricator try.... he couldn't fix it either...Anyway.. there was some good that came out of it... another guy who specializes in industrial drives was talking to me about building a cog drive for my blower.. My 12 rib is going to slip terrible....time to spend some more money... I'm guessing that I may not make BG this year as the backlog at Be Cool is always long... I WAS SOOO CLOSE....I never get mad and throw things... but I did kick a garbage can across the garage floor lasts night when it happened....
Stuff Happens... Actually I should have expected this with my luck...little mistakes can be very costly both in time and money... another life lesson!
Still waiting on the guys at BeCool to tell me whether my radiator is repairable or if they'll hav to make a new one (which will be REAL painful). Anyway, in the meantime I've been busy fininshing other things like doing some fiberglass work under the hood where I had to notch it for the supercharger, cleaning/polishing, getting my A/C all routed and hooked up. This was not an easy task as I had to make adapters on my metal lathe to go from #12 and #8 (factory) A/C fittings to #10 and #6 fittings in order to use the Aeroquip braided stuff...In the event I ever get my radiator back I should be on the road within a couple of days... Depending on BeCool I should be able to make the pilgrimage (sp?) to BG...
good luck... I am going to be relocating my AC equipment in my 96 as well, and tips? i figured i would just get the big pieces where they fit well and then figure out he routing and what i could handle i would take care of and what not would let an AC place finish up..ie crimps and metal to rubber hose connections.
I'm not too sure about relocating the Lt1 stuff. Honestly, the only way I was able to do it is with massive fabrication. If the lt1 acceossies are all pretty much on the drivers side (I'm thinking of Bald's turbo setup), you should be OK as is as long as you use only one turbo.. If those Supras can make 1000hp+ with one turbo.. so can you.. it would seem to take a lot of the cost/complexity out of such a project. In order to do set up my air I basically bought everything from Vintage Air except for the evaporator which is why I had to make the adapters. I decided to use the Aeroquip stuff because it looks cool and I can do it myself.. I cut the original lines after the sensors because on both the high and low sides as I want the climate control to still work. I made my adapters such that the stock aluminum lines slip snuggly right into the back of each which contain a #10 (low) and #6 (high) ..which are not typical 37 degree fittings... which use to mate the Aeroquip stuff.
I hate having other people do work for me.... Of course you already know this... but everytime you use the words "I'll need to change that"... it costs money....usually about twice as much as you had originally thought..
amen!
yeah, i will at least get a quote from the guys here in town.. I generally cannot stomach those words either! and have a personal rule.. unless the equipment is ultimately way more expensive then the cost of having someone I TRUST perform the work.. I learn a new trade and own some new equipment.. this way down the road, ya have tools which added value and functionality to the shop/garage, and you find your much more self sufficient and rely less on outside fabbing which saves alot of money in the long run.. when i make my first millions and my garage is expanded to a 10 car with multiple lifts for all my cars..lol there will be a clean room with a full CNC machine capable fo doing whatever i need! lol until that spare $100-500k finds its way into my budget .. well I will conjure up ways of getting things done and correctly! but i certainly feel the same as you on this.. no one can do it better then you.. and no one holds a higher standard for the quality of work as you do for your own vehicle. when ya find someone who does.. you make sure to let them know how rare their kind is!
As soon as you find your extra million let me know, cause I want to move in next to you!!!!!!!!!!!!! We could sit around all day and fabricate for fun...drink some soda pop (beer) and just generally "kick it". Wait, that pretty much what I do now... well... except for the fabrication and drinking part...
New radiator time.... Got a discount on this one though...This time around it's only going to be $700.........See what happens when it's late, you're tired and perhaps not thinking clearly? A seemingly small mistake isn't.... They stated that they will get it into production ASAP.. I'm still counting on getting to Bowling Green!!!!!!!!!! The one good part to this is that now I have had time to tie up all of the other little loose ends that I was going to leave until later .... so..... I should be good to go when I get the new radiator back....we'll see....
I'm just gonna say wow... I'm running a stroked 396 with a s/c & intercooler setup, and its gotten to where it does take alot to really impress me under a hood (even though i've seen plenty of cars... and several on here, that were amazing and would easily eat mine alive) and that's just fantabulous! Congrats!
I appreciate the compliment. It sounds like you've got a pretty serious ride there yourself. You are in good company here with guys like TJWong, Bruce, vvv90, antivenom, baldturbofreak (not sure where he went), Zelement, and many others that have machinery that most would not want to meet at a stoplight. I think I speak for everyone in that we'd like to see some pictures of your setup.
TONYDEE64 I have some pics at the link under my sig. Thanks, GS387 is definately a blast and I'd say its the funnest car I've had (close second would be my old 78 Silver anniversary car that we had a former busch series engine builder "massage" for around 350 horsies N/A). I've got a few pics of it, but none of those are online... I'll try to get some of those posted, that was a pretty fun ride.
vvv90 Yep, I will be selling the Shelby clone, but we're in the middle of a fresh paintjob on it right now as well as an engine swap to the built 302 out of the 95 stang that's in the pictures as well. I'll be posting the pictures I took of the engine removal from this past weekend soon (maybe later today). Right now I'm not quite sure what I'll be asking, but the car is very clean and straight and didn't have any rust either. Was originally black we found out under several layers of paint (including some nappy blue color they oversprayed some onto the rear quarter vents). If all else fails and I were to end up having to sell the GS for financial reasons, then I'd keep the 65 and build it up even more. My first focus is to get rid of that 95 and free up a little cash... then I'll be in a little better shape. I'll let you know what I decide to ask on the 65. It may depend a little on what we spend on it with the painting process and how much I do to the car with all that. I'm dropping a freshly rebuilt 302 in the 95 and hopefully can get it sent on its way asap.
