i want one!
kevin steele @ tci is looking to get one as soon as possible. they will definately make software(unit) to control. maybe ill be their beta tester
How will it be better than the existing A4 options?
Mark
they say as strong as current 4l80e. that tranns is basically turbo400!!!
mark plus itll have 4 drive gears, 5 th and 6th is overdrive. cuurent 4l60e has only 3 drive gears. those two things mean a boatload!

Nice....
That'd make a hell of a setup for high HP drag cars.
Consistancy, durability & streetability. Doesn't get any better.

I can't imagine that the unit will be strong enough for any good high HP drag racing. If they piled more **** in the same length case then somewhere there has to be a give and take for the extra gears. Hopefully I am wrong but ?
The 6L80/6L90 is one of the strongest non intustrial tranny GM has made in a long long time rated at 430+ lb tq with max gear box torque of 664lb-ft. It is not like any other transmission they have done as it is completly bandless. All power drive transfer is via disc's known as "clutch to clutch" technology. The aftermarket has had a handle on beefing this end of the trannys up for sometime. As for fitment, I measured one with my trusty tape and it comes out to the same length as the 4L60 so its probably the best option to package in the C5.
The one drawback fo the tranny is 4th gear is not 1:1 it is 1.15:1. This should make for some interesting dyno #s.

Phil
Phil what are the other gear ratios for the 4L80E?
BTW clutch to clutch is not new both the THM350 & 400 used this even though they both contained bands. They were only used during manual shifting or when reverse was selected.
And remember gear ratios can be easly changed, usually by changing only 1 gear.

That was my point and aftermarket companies have a jump on in the world of disc in reguards to friction material and steels. It has been the band/drum arrangement that really hurts the 4l60s and the like.
The 4l90 is apparently going to be rated over 500lb when all is said and done. That gives us upgraded parts much like the 4l65 did right from GM.
Gear ratios are
4.02 First (silly)
2.36 Second
1.51 Third
1.15 Fourth
.86 Fifth
.67 6th
It also uses a 300mm conveter, that should allow all aftermarket converter people to jump right in. Potentially the current converters can be used but its to early to tell for sure on the pump arrangement.

I asked ECS about this trans and was told it wouldn't fit. If it will fit on my C5, it will suit my 3.90 gears perfectly (first gear will be a lot of fun )
I see an upgrade from my current Rodney 4L60E in the not too distant future.

old school th400 just need a little massaging to make strong as hell.
no need for crazy azz parts
Nick,
I would agree at the moment. $5,000 for the crazy ... parts plus installation. Plus blowing it up a few times (15-20k) does nothing for me a moment. Plus getting stuck and down time. Yuk...
I would rather see someone else play with it on their dime and time.
just got off the phone with head engineer @ tci, kevin steele.
he's been trying, for some time, to get his hands on on of these. he tells me that i can use it as a beta tester. so many obstacles...
friction plate, same as what is used in current tranny??? if not
tcc is no problem, has shells. management..... that another obstacle. they already have a stand along for 4l60e(stealth uses it).
kevin told me that their engineers at the FAST division could easly handle that.
ANYONE GOT CONNECTIONS & GM??? phil....
