I thought about that but that adds another 500 or so on to the swap. I may do that in the long run but for now I'll go with the factory control.

How in gods name do you get the bolts in on the QuickTime bellhousing that aren't the bottom 3? Did y'all use a 1/4 socket, swivel and extensions? I've tried using my 3/8 and it's impossible.

Lean the motor as far back as you can, watch out for contact at the AC lines behind the passenger side head. Then use some long 3/8" extensions, swivels... Run it in as far as you can by hand, then zap it with the impact. I used a 1/2" impact with a 1/2"-3/8" adapter so I could use the thinner 3/8" drive sockets/extensions. Its a pain in the *** for sure.. I hope I never have to pull the bell housing... If I pull the motor, the bell housing is coming out with it.

I got some 1/4 extensions and 11mm socket with a swivel. Got it started and went to my 3/8 to tighten them down. Thankfully my heads are off which made getting to 2 of them easy. So now it's on and time to put the motor back together then move on to the controller.

The used my jack to move it up and down and still wasn't enough. The 1/4 drive worked great to get them in and hand tight.

OK I got my rpm harness in and just finished up wiring it to the ecm. I had to remove two wires to install the new wires in their place. I didn't expect that so I was checking to see if this is what others have experienced. Anybody have any input?

OK I found the ecm pinout, when swapping from manual to auto there will be two pins that you remove and replace with new at the ecm.

I believe that varies from year to year, but yes, there are some wires that will need to be removed.

I think I pulled 4 out in my 01 Z.

I've been working a lot and haven't had much time. But I have my motor back together minus the headers.

I think the standalone computer is going to be a pain with the other switches where the clutch was. Does anyone have a wiring diagram they used for their Z on the swap?

I'm assuming the only place to install my large cooler is in front of the front tire in the wheel well. I'm thinking the inlet to the cooler needs to be on top and the outlet on the bottom if I mount it sideways? I don't know if it'll fit longways.

That's all I have for now and I'm sure I'll have more questions

I'm not sure how long your wiring loom is but you could install the control box on the back of the tub and mount it behind the taillights for ease of access.

I wish I could somehow mount mine there but the smurfer is huge with the built in fan. AJ has his on the driver side in front of the front wheel but how he has it mounted to what I have no clue. But that is the least of my problems. The wiring of all of this and the bracket for the shifter cable has me worried I bit off more than I can chew. The wires for the controller are thankfully labeled but do I buy a Hayes manual for a auto C5 or for my C5Z?

Okay, so it seems Hayes doesn't make one for the C5. Anyone got any links to one I need?

This post will help where mount the bracket

Here's some pics I thought might help with the shift cable bracket discussion.

Here's the bracket I removed from my car. Drilled out the 3 spot welds and popped it off with a chisel.

Looking straight up at the bracket to show the installed angle

The top of the bracket is less than four inches from the back of the shifter hole

Here's the bracket, cable and the staple that locks the cable into the bracket

Everything put together

You should get the GM manuals for the model year of your car. Auto/manual are the same set of books.

Gene at GMPartshouse can help you out.

Why did you go with the external controller when the PCM does a fine job of controlling the trans?

It was a few bucks more and why not? It seems much better for tuning then dealing with all the nonsense in the stock tune.

That's the manual. Contact Gene. His pricing is better, and he's a vendor here.
