"Not so professional driver on a closed course, do not attempt this at home", now that we have the legalities taken care of, 176mph. Front end gets very light. Need some winglets on the front, some rear spoiler and a vented hood to let the air escape. Car had plenty more in it, I just didn't!
Sounds like the truth. Car has more then the driver.
mine is 151 mph, 4th gear 6700 rpms on tall tires 18x310/37
over the VIR back straight hill into the braking zone.
Car very stable at high speeds. but do have splitter and rear spoiler plus lots of negative camber. The extractor hood helps move air though the engine bay - high on mod list.
I just tested her on Monday. I hit Redline in 4th gear and looked at the HUD and it said 142 MPH. That was enough for me. I could tell it had alot more left but the front end felt a little spongy at that speed. Only mods are K&N with zip tie and MAF screen removed. Oh yeah the fog screens and cove vents are out also. About ten years ago I had a 96 LT1 Z28 with the 6 speed in it also and it had to be in 5th just to come close to 130 MPH and it seemed like it was fighting to get every digit on the speedo. Not with the C5 it screemed all the way!

The car was at 4,000 rpm and still had plenty more to go but the problem is I haven't found a road straight enough, flat enough or where I could see far enough to feel comfortable. 144 is about 1 and 1/4 miles every 30 seconds. Not good if you can't see a long way.
I think the offense is called "Aggravated Speeding." That is when you are going so fast the cop is REEEAAAALLLLYYYY pissed off and aggrevated by the time he catches up to you.

In The Republik of California over 100MPH is a "felony traffic stop" You go straight to jail, they tow the car, the judge throws the book at you and your insurance goes through the roof! Just not worth it!

183mph on a closed straight 8 mile road near my home. We got consent from the local police department to do so.... All is good until you look down at the speedometer, then you get scared. Never again though
Car was only 3000 miles old and in stock configuration. I hit 171 mph with no traffic during the late day on Autobahn A6 in Germany. I'll admit, it was a stooopid thing to do, but it was legal! (At least, on the German Autobahn it was. )
Normal cruisin' speed for me in the unlimited sections was about 110 mph.
When there was a posted speed limit (and there are Autobahn sections with definite limits), I stuck to them! (They have tons of photo speed cameras over there.)
I keep things to traffic speeds (i.e., the posted limit) here in the states. Speed work is kept to HPDEs on a dedicated road course (i.e., VIR or Sebring.)
Hypothetically, if I lived in Montana, I would have been 100% legal driving any speed. Exceeding the speed limit by more than 10-20 mph is dangerous to yourself and everyone around you. So why is it legal to go 100 in Montana and only 55 in NY state? I guess traffic density and road conditions are a large part of it. However the northern part of NY can have 0 for traffic density at various times of the day, shouldn't people be allowed to go faster then?
That said, at an undisclosed location somewhere in the US, I hit approx 145mph in my 1994 z28 Camaro 6spd LT1, and about 150mph in my C5. Anyone who can tell you EXACTLY how fast they were going is lying since you can't take your eyes off the road at that speed long enough to read the numbers. All you know is about where your needle is pointing.

Well, I know that I can watch my speed with my HUD (Heads Up Display), because I do not have to take my eyes off of the road and look at the needle.
I have hit 150 and that was exilirating until my detector went off.
155 or so is as fast as I've gone. The car had a lot more, still pulling strong, but I ran out of straight track. No need to look down, the HUD displays everything I need to see.
This was one of the few times I've managed to go through about a half talk of gas in around 15 miles... Long straight, lots of highish speed turns/curves...
