When they say "midlife crisis" I look at them with a puzzled look and ask "then what was it when I was 25 and had a Vette?"
They NEVER have a comeback.
Some say "you must be rich" and I say "why yes I am" (eventhough I'm not even close) I love to see the dumb look on their face after that one. A lot of folks drive SUV's and MB's that cost more than my Vette but they have the perception that I must have a lot of money in order to afford a Vette I guess it's the Vette mystiqe.
The ones I HATE are the jealous ones, and they are usually the one's making the stupid comments.
I haven't heard any discouraging words - the ladies say I look much better since I got the Vette and the guys all ask when they can borrow it - and yes - they do get to!
Yeah I love it. I paid 16K for my Vette and I work at a hospital. Probably 75% of the vehicles there cost more than my car but guess which one turns heads when it drives by?
is getting in and going for a ride... it seems not many for me now, my mom is really sick, and taking care of her is a big job.. so when i do get to get out , even if short trip to wally world, the vette just clears your mind, and turns u back to 16, or 20, hell at my age any turn back is wonderful... lol...
I'm 49 and will be turning 50 in April. I just bought my corvette 'cause I've always wanted one. The kids are teenagers now and will be driving soon, so I thought now's the time. Felt guilty buying it at first but my wife said to "go for it!" Course...My wife never has problems buying things...
Anyway now when people laugh at me and say "Mid-Life Crisis huh?"
I just give them a great big smile and say "Yeah...mid-life crisis is cool...I love mid-life crisis!"
Or I tell 'em my daughter's getting lousy grades in school anyway, so I spent her college tuition.
We're pretty conservative about it... Never make it a big deal and rarely if ever bring it up...
When someone finds out or asks, I say (Truthfully) that the wife bought it before we were married and that it's her car. Her name is on the title, not mine. The key thing is that I'm pretty much the ONLY driver...
No one has ever asked if I'm compensationg for anything... I wear size 15 shoes and my hands are huge!! What does that mean? I'm a big guy that wears big shoes and gloves!!
I'm 43 and only one person has ever mentioned mid-life crisis...
I just tell them "you should see my other one"...shuts 'em up no matter which Vette I'm driving! And if this is a mid-life crisis then I'm gonna see 84 'cause I'm only 42...'course somedays I feel a tad older after 20 years on active duty in the Corp!
What sort of tactics (ie...comebacks) have people used to deal with the typical BS received when you are over 40 and buying a Corvette?
I am in sales and have thick skin so I really don't care what people think. I just want a good collection of comebacks ready.
hehehehehehe
Soon to be a C5 owner...
Wife and I are 48 and we just bought our first three weeks ago. Got the same from people at the office. Only one stated:
"We must be paying you a lot of money". My retort was: "Wise investments". We did a refi on house and took cash out. Payments were the same as before. Now we are C5 Vette owners!!!!
