I did an informal survey before I bought mine last month. The majority of the 'Vette drivers around here are male and have either salt & pepper hair like mine, or none at all. Q.E.D.
Most of the comments have been nice with only a smattering of "second childhood" or "mid life crisis" remarks. I'm having neither. I'm still on my first childhood at 54.
Just got my first Corvette at 54. It's just been six days and I don't think the neighbors know it is in the garage, so I haven't had any comments yet. All that matters is my wife and I think I deserve it, we can afford it, and I am happy as a canary! I think I'll go look at it right now and get that Christmassy feeling again, as I do every time I see it! Jon
I'm 54 and bought mine when I was 51. After loving Vettes since I was a teenager, I finally rewarded myself with a life long dream. Some of my neighbors and co-workers are obviously jealous, like I really give a crap. But most are very envious and love it. To those that say "it must be nice", I tell them they should reward themselves with their life long dream, because life is too short.
I was 42 when I had a "mid-life" crisis. That crisis came in the form of a heart by-pass where I had a 50/50 change of making it through. Thank the Lord, he saw fit that I'm still around and my wife encouraged me to look at a 95 vette as a form of reward. She had wanted a vette for years, I at that time was into britsh sport cars, didn't want a thing to do with a Corvette. But I got in the 95 and test drove it, came back and couldn't wipe the grin off my face! 6 months latter I bought the wife a customized 88.
That was 9 years ago and we are now on our third corvette. I'll soon be 51 and I refuse to grow up. I have never had a bad thing said to me about owning the Corvette, shoot, I have insisted that my friends drive it, not just ride in it. I like to see grins on other faces too. It has caused a few to go out to buy their own.
Heck, don't care what others say. Having an opinion is just like having a mom, everyone's got one. Just go out and enjoy it, share your joy with others..life is too short.
Well said!
Life is too short regardless of age. I'm 35 and had some life changing experiences.
I hear the mid life crisis B.S. all the time and it's usually from people that do not live there life to the fullest. Having a Corvette is a life style IMO .I drive and enjoy it!
