I just tell'em "It's my mid-life crisis and I'm proud of it".
As far as compensating for something I tell them " We all have to do what we have to do".
Bottom line is they're all jealous as he!!.
The ones that irritate me are those that are so competitve (or self centered) that they have to out-do you.
They can't bring themselves to say "nice car" or "congratulations".
They immediately talk (in a superior tone) about having a BMW or something
I bought my first Vette when I was 57,a MY 2004 Vert. I didn't realize that I was having a mid-life crisis. Now that I understand that stuff maybe I'll add a supercharger to go along with the Corsa exhaust, headers, etc. Wow !!!!!
Bucco
I tell them that I have matured over the years and I thought that it was time for me to buy an economy car with high gas mileage that is good for the environment. When they say "HUH!" I tell them that I get 27.5 mpg with cruise control set at 80 mph.
I'm 25 and drive a C5. I've heard things like "quarter life crisis" and all that crap. Frankly I think most people are either jealous or don't have any passion for cars. Oh, and they guy who said us younger folks don't drive corvettes because we can;t afford the insurance....we pay more for my wife's civic than my corvette and my driving record has a few more speeding tickets than hers so I think your logic might be busted.
Heck yes, I'm compensating for something: all those years of driving kids around in station wagons and minivans. I'm 52, midlife if you will. Ain't no crisis; life is good.
I'm 43 and I bought my first C5 in August 2004. Our cleaning woman (about my age, black, and so big that I don't think she will fit into the car) said something about midlife crises. My reaction? I just laughed
I bought my first Vette when I was 23, my second when I was 53 and my current one when I was 58...so I just telll them hey, I've been driving them all my life.
I bought my first Corvette at age 18. That was 35 years ago and I'm still driving one. So, I've had several people ask if the current car represents my second childhood. I always tell them that I never got out of my first childhood!
I may grow old but I'll never grow up.
Years ago I had a cocky smartazz say to me " A Vette, eh? Everybody has a Vette" My answer was "What color is yours?" That shut him up. Made me feel better too. Now that I am older, I just smile when they start on that crisis stuff. Enjoy life.
