I say " Yeah, I've always had one since I was 22, This is my eighth one.
I guess my midlife crisis started early because I really don't know when I'm going to die therefore I'm covering my butt by keeping one around always."

I was 33 when I bought my C5 and I got the mid life crisis crap from everyone driving there piece of poop family wagons and lumbering trucks. So I let the exhaust and my tail lights do the talking.

I'm 34, and the day i bought mine i heard the mid life crisis thing. It was a lady that said it, so I came back with "Well, sure, call it what you want, but the way I see it is that at 34, I'm in my sexual prime, so I need a ***** magnet."

I'm 45 and just bought my 'vette in November. People that know me know that I've always owned performance cars and been into racing, and have continually gotten better, faster cars. I've finally been able to step up to a 'vette. The mid-life crisis definitely doesn't work here. It's not like I've been driving only mundane 4 door sedans all my life and just out of the blue decided it was time to get that sports car.

But the bottom line is, who cares what others think? The 'vette is an awesome car. Enjoy it.

I was 42 when I had a "mid-life" crisis. That crisis came in the form of a heart by-pass where I had a 50/50 change of making it through. Thank the Lord, he saw fit that I'm still around and my wife encouraged me to look at a 95 vette as a form of reward. She had wanted a vette for years, I at that time was into britsh sport cars, didn't want a thing to do with a Corvette. But I got in the 95 and test drove it, came back and couldn't wipe the grin off my face! 6 months latter I bought the wife a customized 88.

That was 9 years ago and we are now on our third corvette. I'll soon be 51 and I refuse to grow up. I have never had a bad thing said to me about owning the Corvette, shoot, I have insisted that my friends drive it, not just ride in it. I like to see grins on other faces too. It has caused a few to go out to buy their own.

Heck, don't care what others say. Having an opinion is just like having a mom, everyone's got one. Just go out and enjoy it, share your joy with others..life is too short.

Since I've bought three Vettes in the last year and a half, people think my hormones are completely out of control and midlife crisis is setting in. I just smile and say it's better to change cars frequently then men. That shuts 'em up.

Default Why?

54 here. Bought the Vette when I was 52. If they ask why, reply is, "Because I wanted it and could". My wife and I just want to have our turn on the planet the way we want it and really are not bothered about what the rest of them think.

Older people drive Vettes because when you're "older" , you can finally afford one! (I just turned 38)

I think the cut-off age demographic for Vettes seems to be in the 30's. For most people younger than that, the Vette doesn't have any appeal to them it seems. They were born with the onset of the import boom...different age, changing of the guard I guess...

Also, I love the "mid life" crisis cliche. I think alot of people think that Vette owners are trying to make a statement with their car, or a status symbol, so to speak, because they are aging, and trying to "hold on". To me, that sounds like a mental health crisis!

To me, I am a "car guy", and I'm into it b/c its a performance car, and the best American one, too! Thats it. I didnt buy it to look cool, or "pick up chicks" with it! Also the "compensation" thing! Thats funny, everyone uses that when someone has a nice toy, ie: nice boat, truck, Vette, etc....that one makes me laugh!

So don't answer 'em, or just think of a witty comeback on your own. You'll be surprised what you might come out with at that moment!

That's fine Josh...but in 17 years when you're buying a C8 or 9 or 10 you will hopefully be able to go back to this thread and have an arsenal of comebacks!

I caught a ton of crap, so I had to come up with a ton of comebacks:

I can just now pay for insurance.

Heck, it's a tax right off (which is the truth anyway) and yes it's payed for! Thanks America!

But, you can only have two people in it, "and what's the problem with that?"

My 15 yo daughter, "old people get the good stuff"

Mid Life crisis comments:

If I were having a midlife crisis, I would trade my wife in on 2 - 20's!

I'm 43. Most of the time I tell the guys when you grow up and are no longer p*&^y whipped you too can get one That's usually the last time I hear from them.

Most of all who gives a rip, bought it for me and the wife.

Best,

tt
