I'm 43 now , and have owned several c4s in the past decade or so before falling in love with my c5 . Just don't see the problem with being over forty and driving a Vette . when was forty OLD anyway ?
it seems to me that a hardly see 20 somethings driving vettes , but I see a lot of 30s ad beyond drive them .
it's really not the price that keeps the young away from Vettes , it's the insurance , you almost have to be "OLD" to afford buying insurance for a Vette . And I kinda like that , Let the youngin's drive the ricers instead .
ITS NOT THE INSURANCE BUT THE KIDS AND THE WIFE..NOT A FAMILY CAR, TOO SMALL, ETC,,,MAIN REASON FOR NOT HAVING ONE AND MOST OF THE GUYS OUT THERE ARE A BUNCH OF MO MOS PUNKS WHO DON T HAVE THE NUTS TO STAND UP TO THEIR WIVES,,IF YOU CAN AFFORD ONE THEN BUY ONE,,OTHERWISE MOVE ON TO ANOTHER CHICK,,DON T BE A MO MO
I'm 22 and I just bought my first Vette 3 months ago. I get a lot of "what are you going to do when you actually HAVE your mid-life crisis?" That's easy....get a hooker!!

Kingman, I like your thinking buddy As you can see from Avatar, Corvettes were built to be driven, not trailered. I know a couple of guys who are "clock watchers"...but hey to each his own I guess. I was always tell them they're saving all the fun for someone else to enjoy when your gone...not this cowboy and from the sounds of it, not you either
have a little story. at a show with club and young guy looking at our vets,1 bing tt widebody and a couple of other LPE cars. asked me what we did for a living, i just tipped my hat to show the gray and said "WE EARNED IT!

Had a 64 Vette in 1966, then another 64 in 1970. I was 18 when I bought my first one. Now I'm 58 and just bought a 2000 Vert and love it. I think most people are whispering to themselves "dang, I wish I could get one" JD
I've owned my 2002 Z06 for four months now, and have have not heard any negative comments yet related to a mid-life crisis, etc, and I'm 61. A few weeks ago while at a stop light, a young guy riding passenger in a 4-door Honda next to me said "Nice car, man!" and after a brief pause added "but everyone has one just like it". All I could think in the brief moment before the light changed was "There is a reason for it!". The guy looked a little puzzled and that was it. Actually, in SoCal I see C5's almost everywhere, so they are pretty common here. I get more comments when driving my '65 Chevelle Malibu SS, but most of them are from women who tell me their boyfriend in high school had one just like it.
I havent had anyone say anything other than nice car. I would tell them I have wanted one for a long time and can finally afford one. Oh, by the way, I turn 40 this year. Lets see what happens.
I've had 10 "Nice Car" comments for every 1 "Mid-life Crisis" cracks. I'm 54 & just got my first Vette - an '01. Like you say, "I have wanted one for a long time and can finally afford one." Nuff said.
Except for 2-3 years, I've owned a Vette since I was 22 and I'm almost 61 so people that know me know it"s not a mid life crisis and if they don't know me I don't give a darn.
Couldn't have my dream home when I was in my 20's - couldn't have my dream car when I was in my 20's - now when people ask me "Why on earth did you buy that? - my answer is CAUSE I CAN!!!
What sort of tactics (ie...comebacks) have people used to deal with the typical BS received when you are over 40 and buying a Corvette?
I am in sales and have thick skin so I really don't care what people think. I just want a good collection of comebacks ready.
hehehehehehe
Soon to be a C5 owner...
I am a LOT older than 40. No complaints - I earned my way here. People will always kid about substituting a hot car for a hot woman, but few mean anything negative. Some are a bit envious, but many actually are happy that you have a car that you like. In my age group, most folks have Lexus or Mercedes. A few have Cadillacs or Bimmers. I seem to be the only one who really enjoys performance. So, what do I say to them - "you like driving those mush melons down the road?"
My other car is a Suoercharged Denali - no one says anything about that one until they ride with me - Then they say "Holy S***! "
I like fast cars. I like even more the bang for the buck I get with the 'vette.
I'm still a few years away from a midlife crisis ( unless my number is coming sooner than I thought) but I catch all sorts of crap about my vette. A Few Army buddies that I regularly hang with nick named my car the "Compensator." I tell them I'm compensating for their lack of taste, style, and class becuase they have to make the baddest and fastest go kart out of stuff that runs off soy sauce and rice.

Well i am way over 40 and the only negative thing i got was from my daughter who is married and has two children .When i brought the car i went over to her house to show it to her ahe keep saying oh my god ,oh my god i am not going to tell anyone what kind of a car you bought. But let me tell you i meet people on the street who are friends of my daughter and i get hey i understand you have a corvette,so i guess she did tell a few people. She always told me old people buy vettes which as all you people on the forum know that is not true at all.

I bought my first Corvette when I was 28 and I just bought my fourth one and I'm 64. Where I live, most of the Corvette drivers are closer to my age than not.
