I never had the problem, but I installed the CLB about 2 years after I bought my car.

I award you for asking the question.

It would have been better response/evaluation had you posted a poll for this purpose.

At a minimum, the poll should have included:

1. Ever Have CL? Y/N

2. If Yes to No. 1, do you have an A4?

3. If Yes to No. 1., do you have an MN6 or MN12?

4. If Yes to No. 1, do you have the aftermarket CLB (not OEM)?

5. If Yes to No. 1, do you have the OEM repair CLB?

6. Have you ever had CLB failure? Y/N

7. If Yes to No. 6 was it OEM CLB failure?

8. If Yes to No. 6 was it aftermarket CLB failure?

9. If yes to No. 6 was it another issue causing the failure? Y/N

10. If you have never had CL failure does you Vette have a CLB installed? Y/N

11. Is the CLB aftermarket? Y/N

12. Is the CLB OEM? Y/N

13. Have you had multiple CL failures? Y/N

14. If yes to No. 13, was itr due to the aftermarket CLB? Y/N

15. If yes to No. 13, was if due to failure of the OEM CLB? Y/N

16. If yes to No. 13, was it caused by another issue? Y/N

17. If no to No. 13, are you going to install a aftermarket CLB? Y/N

18. If no to No. 13, are you going to install a OEM CLB? Y/N

There may be other 'questions', but the above will allow a clearer picture of the CLB/CL matters (IMHO).

Good luck, cannot wait to participate.

I have 03 MN6 with 28K and have not had the column lock up. I did have the first recall the one that reflashed the computer.

My nieghbor had a 99 MN6 and no problems. He then got a 02 MN6 Z06and no problems.

My other neighbor had a 2000 A4 not problems and now has a 03 A4 and not problems.

Never a problem here. But rather than tempt the devil to long, I installed a bypass within a couple of months after bringing the car home.

No problem......but I didn't really wait for a lock to happen. I got the CLB soon after I started reading about the issue on the Forum.

No problem here. I had the recall done two years ago when the General recommended it.

Why tempt the gods of fate? I installed a CLB in my 2004, 6-speed convertible when it had a mere 1400 miles on it. Judging by my previous luck with things like that, I knew if it was going to happen to anybody, it would happen to me!

Those of you who have no column lock problems and have not installed the CLB, congrats. But I truely believe you are on borrowed time. I hope being stranded never happens to anyone as it has occured to me and many others. $50 spent on insurance is worth every penny.
