Not likely... wasn't reading the key.. As for me, I put the CLB on as soon as I got the car. Column's unlocked all the time.

Originator should pull a Search on this matter.

Very soon it would become apparant that this is not a 'myth' as some have suggested.

For those people - I sure hope to read their post when it happens to them

The fact that so many responding to this thread are newbie owners of their cars could be a great factor in skewing the results to make this problem seem smaller than it really is. Many of these recently purchased vehicles may have already had the CL problem and some probably already have CLB's without the current owners knowing it.

CLB was the second mod I did. CAGS was 1st. With all the info here, there is no reason for anyone to have a column lock problem. If you don't have a CLB, not only are you living on borrowed time, IMHO, you are stupid too.

1999 C5 coupe - ordered and purchased new.

Column lock malfunctioned while I was out-of-state, on vacation - immobilizing car.

When I called Chevrolet's Roadside Assistance and told the operator that my new Corvette was broken-down, she asked if the steering wheel was locked up.

The car was towed and took three days to repair under the new car warranty. Part of our vacation was ruined and we were stranded in a town with no motel reservations or contacts. I paid high $$$ for a motel room. Chevrolet refused to reiburse me for the lodging / meals / etc.

The system is a piece of junk and Chevrolet should replace the system with a reliable locking system at no cost to the car's owner.

Chevrolet was WELL AWARE of the high number of problems with the system and chose to ignore it for a long time.

Their satsifaction campaign and later recall (numerous revisions) "fix" was to disconnect the system - not what I paid for with my new car purchase.

I believe there would have been many more column lock systems that failed and immobilized the car, except many owners installed the column lock bypass. I later did AFTER my car's system failed and stranded me.

So far I've owned a '97, '02 Z06 and two '04 Z06's. I've never had the column lock on any of them...knock on wood!

I took my '99, A4 into the dealer to have the recall done before I had a problem. If buying a used car it's easy to check the history at your dealer if the recall was performed.

You don't really believe the recall fixed the problem do you? Wait until your fuel is cut off due to the faulty k harness they used. I wish you luck...
