Garmin C340 all of N. America preloaded. No cards, no downloading and it has a battery. Didn't need a manual, turned it on, it asked where I wanted to go I filled in the blanks and drove off. It also tells you the name of the upcoming street to turn on and you can change voices. Bought it used for $220. Garmin has an automatic update software so when you hook it up to your computer it checks for upgrades and install them automatically. There interface is the simplest of all the units I looked at.
I too love my Garmin 2720. It has a remote control, but I'm not sure why. I mean it comes with a bean bag mount that sits right in front of you, unless your mother in law sits in the back seat (when you move it to your minivan) and controls your gps? I travel every day and it really saves me. Little things like telling you which lane you need to be in for your next turn. You can get one at Sam's and other places for around $800. Retail $1100. There are cheaper models out there, for sure.

I have the TomTom ONE in my car and its great. The unit is compact but still has a easy to read screen and I really like the voice telling me two turns ahead whats going on. Also, I really like that it has the Map Insight to help improve the maps and keep them up to date - money.
I use my Verizon razor phone with VZ Navigator, works great with voice, arrows and mapquest maps.It costs $10 a month or $3 a day when you need it.Check it out!
The POI database is really good on the ONE also. I didn't know how specific it was until I was out looking for a halloween costum last saturday and all stores were empty when I was out looking for Hansel/zoolanger wigs at the last minute and i had to keep looking for new stores to go to TeleAtlas rocks.
Strange thing is, it recognizes my address and street, but then takes me to the wrong place when the destination is my home. Fortunately, I know the way!
Anybody have a similar problem? Can you update the maps?
Have you ever driven to where it tells you your house is? Maybe your house has a twin. O.K. I'm you don't have to tell me.
Hey, do you guys with iWay 500s use them to play MP3s? What does it take to hook one to the radio, and do you lose the voice announcements if it is hard wired for power instead of using the lighter plug? Easiest way to mount the antenna? Lotsa questions, but I'll appreciate help in making a decision. Thanks.

One thing to verify is the connection to Vehicle Speed Sensor. If it isnt there, the dumb thing "drifts" off position.
The Pioneers are sweet looking/working machines (mine is AVIC-Z1) but they have definite problems in their interface, especially with the Ipod and voice actuation.
Navman iCN 550 ...UBid. $330.00 at auction.
Nice unit. All the USA and Canada loaded and ready to use.
2-3 hours of battery life and a cig charger. Updates on line.
I can get the maps for Europe for about $100.
I can't believe I lived without it.
My nickname had been "wrongway" for several years....LOL.
