While I'm sure it isn't the actual truth... the way I see it is that the C6 had exposed headlights because there was simply no way to improve on the look of the C5 and it forced Chevy to go into a different direction ! As I said... "IT'S MY THEORY"... and I'm stickin' to it !!!!!
I too get asked if my '02 is brand new all the time (in fact, just did the other day). The C5 has such great lines and overall look, it will always be fresh.
Some of you have said the one issue you have with C-5's are the headlights and thats the #1 issue I have with c-6's
Still looks way too much like a Viper to me and not enough like a Corvette. the back of the car I like a great deal and the fact it's shorter but I CAN NOT get past the ugly headlights.
When I bought my '02 C5 Z06 last summer, I contemplated if I should spend the extra dough and go for a '05 C6. I do like the look of the C6, but I like that the C5 is a wider car which gives it a low profile race look (in my humble opinion). Also, when I test drove the C6, I felt rear visibility was not as good (e.g. stronger reliance on side mirrors for passing ect...). So between these two things, I went with C5.
Ultimately, I don't care what other people think with respect to dated vs. not dated because I plan on keeping this car for the next 20 years which by that time, fossil fuels will no longer be available.
What I feel is similar to much of what has been posted, in that the C5 doesn't appear dated yet because the C6 was an evolutionary (instead of revolutionary) design. Looking at both, everyone can see just how much they still have in common. It would take a huge change of styling direction for me to be able to view the C5 platform as being dated. Until there is a major shift in styling, automotive trends, and assembly line technology, our C5s are safe from the dreaded "yesterday's news" syndrome.
Sure, someday the technology will become dated, but the styling, like that of all Corvettes, is timeless. There will always be the non-gearheads who don't know S-h-eye-Tee from car wax, and also don't know a Corvette from a Chevette. We all love cars, especially the C5 we drive.

My first vette was a 68 w/427 at the time it to was so different from the 63-67 models. my 02' Z06 is a much better car. But a vette is still a vette period!!
I will say this no Corvette is EVER out of style....We all drive a car be it a C3, C4, C5, or C6 that is WANTED by everyone !!! It defines an american sports car and that little pice of a dream that drives all of us to own them...I love my c5 and it has great curves.... However I would love a C6 Zo6 for its brute power and road hugging style.... Car and driver put it up to the test with a number of great cars and the Zo6 came out on top....Its a unreal bulls eye for Chevy...My car is fantastic but I am realistic to know its not the end all be all of modern performance...But..... I don't really care I drive a Corvette !!!!!!!!!!
I'm a C6 owner (almost bought a C5 last summer but I had just graduated and was a few thousand dollars short) but I can still appreciate the C5. The only thing that's dated about the C5 (besides the subpar interior) is the popup headlights since it was probably the only car to still have the popups in the new millennium. The C6 actually took a few years to grow on me, and now I like it as much (maybe more) as the C5 but the C5 is a truly classic design. That's the car I fell in love with back in high school, and the car that solidified my love for Corvettes. It will always be a great looking car
