Around here we keep it simple, I maintain em, the wife drives em.
When I sold my '99 coupe, she said we better get another one! Now we have an '04 CE coupe that is HER daily driver!
And I'm OK with that, it's MINE on the weekend.
I get the "you love that car more than me" from time to time. If she had any idea how much I have spent on it, I'm sure she would have a problem with it. So she don't know, no problem.....
Mine can't see any reason or ryme for mods, and has gone as far as nameing our vette 'VETTA 'and saying that she is my mistress. What ever, well its kinda true.
I get this treatment. You spend more time with your car then me. You spend more money on your car then me etc.
But when I spend money on her car to upgrade it, she cant wait until I tear it apart and spend hours and hours on it.
Yup!
You always tell her that you'll get her a plastic surgeon and have her torn apart and rebuilt.

My obsession is refered to by her as "The care and feeding of the Corvette". She stopped drivin' it about a year ago, the other day I asked why, (just as I suspected) she scared the bejezzuz out of herself. If the way she drives an R.C. car was like that experince, we are ALL alot better off.

I told my wife when we met (1993)... One day I will have a corvette like my dad did (77,81,88vert). For years I had read many many magazines, taken her to many car shows, drooled over many many cars ....etc, etc, etc . I even took her to Corvette's of Carlisle (1995). She knew I was a fanatic years before I actually got one. We got married in 1998 and I again told her I will have a Corvette one day. She never once said no.
In January 2004 I noticed the HUGE discounts they were offering on Z06's in my area (11k off msrp). I told her it was time to buy my dream Corvette. She told me that she was pregnant with our first child but she told me to go ahead and get it anyways My son has been my co-pilot since he was 4 months old to hot rod shows I'm training the next generaton just like my dad did with me.
She is being great about me and mods too (over 10K so far), however she keeps me regulated because we all know how much we could spend if we don't have limits placed on us
My "girl friend" in the garage is a lot cheaper than a real girl friend. My wife says" this girl friend I can accept". A real girl friend I can't afford.....divorce.

My wife doesn't understand it, although she never complains when I suggest we take a long weekend trip in the Vette.
I have always been a car guy. My dad was a mechanic, so I grew up with it. My wife and I started going together in 7th grade and got married when we were 19, so the car stuff has always been there.
The difference with the Vette rather than the Camaro's is she say's all us Vette People are members of a Cult and must have a secret handshake or something. I said yes, it's called the Wave. She waves too.

I'm sure when my husband gets home he will chime in here but just like moserbe and mqqn--we are in it together---him with his C4 (that I am trying to get him into a C5) and me with my C5. Holidays are never a problem now. When we started dating and eventually married I told him---don't you EVER buy me an appliance as a gift---but hell now car parts are a differnt story...
And now that we have 2 running vettes (the third is being rebuilt) we take both cars everywhere. We have even registered for the next cruise in and registered both of us and are taking both cars---same with Carlisle..We can't make one feel left out now can we..
Here's the kicker for you all---we work at the same place and will still take both cars to work in the summer and park right next to each other---we also both take the long way home---and that is when we have nothing to do after work but go home...
I'm not fasinated w/ my car at all.. I like it, i enjoy it, and take good care of it, but at the end of the day its just a car. I can sell it and find another one just like it in no time.
My wife has her own fascinations and obsessions (shopping, clothes and shoes). I don't understand her's nor does she understand mine. The good thing is, when it comes to our spending, we don't tread on each others hobbies.
My wife and I have been together for around 33 years now. When we met and started dating, I told her that I work hard and play hard. She already could see that, as I had a Corvette and bike and was building racecars. We have built cars and raced NHRA and gone to many Vette activities together in the past. So me buying this latest toy, is no big deal to her. I've been very lucky to have a Wife, who understands my needs and has no problems with them.
My Lady in Red, is a fun toy, but my Anne will always be my favorite lady.
