Have wanted a vette since they began. Course, as a kid, I just kept dreaming of having one some day. It's amazing how fast time flies by and you find yourself still dreaming. Reality hits when your son buys a 2001 Z06 and you drool some more. I thought he might even let me drive it. HA! More reallity. So life was telling me to get moving. Santa(me) found a 99 pewter coupe with my name on it and put it in my garage two months ago.
BRAVO for you JACK !!!!! I bought my 1st 1@ 49 and traded to my 98 @50 !!!! GLAD YOU MADE IT !!!!!
my dad had an 87 when I was real young...when I turned 20 my dad got a c6, at age 21 the big man gave me quite the gift...99 mn6 35k miles on the clock, been in love with it since day 1........wanted one since I was 10!
When I was 17 my manager, in a icecream parlor, let me borrow his 1965 canary yellow convertable to drive in the home coming parade. What a Guy! I was hooked from that time.
I always followed the corvettes evolve, but married with 4 children and starting a business all I was able to do was watch as the prices were way out of my reach. I knew I didn't need a corvette, but man I sure wanted one.
Fast foreward about 28 years, to my surprise and amazement I found myself with a 2000 Vert. Like is good.
it was a great compromise that only cost me $90,000. For ten years all i did was moane & groane about how much i wanted a vette, wife said no way. All she did was moane& groane about how much she wanted a garage(winters kinda bad up here in n.h.),i said cant afford it. Then finally 4 years ago i said to my wife if can get the vette you will get your garage. Bank approved the loan and the vette has a beautiful home.
Corvettes (Sport Cars were not my thing) until I bought an Eclipse spyder. Silver w/ Black top. My friend soon got a 02 Z06 and I thought that was the coolest car. Shortly after that I bought my 1st Vette 2000 Silver Vert...
Ive had the bug ever since and been hooked 100%
I've wanted one since I was a kid and I have a little winkie.
I have no Winkie....So I purchased a Vette in replacement of being able to pee standing up since you men get too!!
But seriously...I had a 2004 Mustang GT and it was slow, heavy, and I got raped on insurance every month. I wanted to go fast and I knew that the LS1 was made by GOD. So in order to get a car made by God I saved some money and just bought my first corvette very recently!

because try as i might, i couldn't find a Yugo in the color i wanted.. actually, i was hooked on owning one when i was 16, and a guy in town had a new (then) fuelie... pulled the left front wheel off the ground in second gear. saw it...
When I was a kid, I saw a Corvette Stingray conv. I thought it was cool. The dream of owning a vette was born.
When I graduated from college with my engineering degree, and began working, I looked forward to buying a new car. I thought corvettes were out of my price range, new ones were at that time.
However used vettes were in my price range. Single with little overhead, I found a red 84 4+3. Owned it for 16 years and modded it. Then the resources came around, trading the 84 for a 2000 Torch Red FRC. The upgrade in technology over the 84 was amazing to me. I am now enjoying modding the 2000.
I am very thankful my wife enjoys seeing my joy with the vette!
Its the cheapest fastest best looking car on the road. Its the best car out of american vehicles. The only thing I can think of that's better is the viper.
Took a '72 for a ride from a dealer in 1976. Tried to make a deal but couldn't get it done. I bought a Corvette key fob and taped it to the refrigerator at my parents' house, explaining it was staying there until I bought one.
Got a triple black 396 roadster in 1977 and drove it back and forth to college. Never been without one since, 14 total.
Mine:
I had a 1998 Deville, which was an excellent car. Northstar was awesome, but still it just didn't do it for me. I looked at Mercedes E430, S500, BMW 740iL, Jaguar XJ8, even another Cadillac, but an STS. I found several I was interested in and did some research. Overall, these cars were okayin reliability, but basic replacement parts were $$$$$$$. Sort of a turnoff, especially the reliability factor. Then, I checked insurance quotes on them.
My Deville with full coverage was $265 every 6 months.
Mercedes E430, S500, etc: $395 every six months
BMW 740iL: $400 every 6 mos.
Jaguar XJ8: $609 every 6 mos!!!!! WHY???
Cadillac STS: Same as Deville, but again it's still another Cadillac.
Just for the hell of it, I searched for Vettes online. I've always wanted one, but never thought of included it in my searches. Reliability factor was above the other vehicles. Then I plugged in the numbers for an insurance quote.
Get this: $360 every six months!! for full coverage? Holy sheep, how cheap!!
Never would of guessed that. Well, long story short, I have a 98 in the driveway....and never looked back!
$360 every 6 months is awesome!!
I pay a little less than $100 a month for mine. '99 with 13,500 miles, fully loaded, full coverage.
Who is your insurance company? I am with statefarm. I have my '02GMC Yukon, '02 Ford Escort, and a '99 vette and mine is around $295 a month. Full coverage on all 3 vehicles.
i had always looked at the vettes and a friend of mine owns a cardealership,he called me up so i drove over i test drove and fell in love ,i traded my 04 mazda rx-8 for the 2000 vette and he gave me 2k in cash ..so i basicaly made close to 6 k on the deal ..even though mymazda had more bells and whistles than the vette i gain 100hp
I bought my Vette because it was my "unicorn" and it was a natural progression. My entire life of driving, I've always owned an F-Body, though I always lusted after the quintessential icon of American automobiles. I could have purchased a Corvette years ago, but it never really felt like it was the right time.
Then last year, a couple of months before I turned 28 and with an impending promotion to TSgt, I had an epiphany. I'm married, have no kids but the wife and I are planning on it within 1-2 years, and financially things are good. If I don't do it now, I'm going to have to wait for a long time. In other words, it's go time. After two weeks, I had the car in my driveway.
The odd thing though?? The "unicorn" factor kicked in. The most euphoric thing about getting the car was the searching, the dreaming, the waiting. Once I had the car, my mindset was "it's just a car." Completely different relationship than I've ever had with my f-Body's (those are my obsession).
Some get them because they like the cars and performance, some because they like the attention, some because they think it will make them "cool". If you bought yours for the first reason great. If you bought it for attention and to become a post ***** on the Corvette Forum, that's pathetic. If you bought yours to be cool, guess what, you're still a dork.
My first ride in a Vette I was 14 and it belonged to my parole Officer, checkard past. Wanted one ever since. Well life happens and dreams get put on hold. ffwd 26 yrs. Two years after turning my knee around backward on motorcycle I told my wife i wanted another MC.
She said "NO!!!" Just as I was getting ready to go through my long well thought out speach, she says "But you can get a Vette." I love this woman! My other Knee likes her too.
I had wanted a vette since I was a teenager and knew what they were. I drove the poor mans vette -- a Camaro for years. I bought my 68 Camaro in March of 1968 because it was cheaper than a vette and money was the decision maker.
I have driven performance cars of various types, 68 Camaro 327 4-sp., 87 Buick GN, 97 Z-28 Camaro.
I retired in June of 2003. The school system bought out my 340 sick days. I ordered my 03 Torch Red MN6 Light Oak interior in the spring of 03. I went to Bowling Green and followed it down the line. Started it, put the first gas in it, put wheels on, etc. A very fun day.
